Made with Red Heart Super Saver Ombre, the natural gradient does all the work to create those pretty tiered branches. And now, with just a few extra steps, you can transform your décor piece into a playful stuffed friend that kids will want to cuddle all season long.

This project is a fun upgrade to the original Ombre Tree Pattern, so if you already have a tree started, you’re halfway there! Just follow the classic cone instructions adding a cute little face as you go, then come back here to add the feet and star topper.

BUT be sure to add two 12mm black safety eyes about 4 ridges down from the top and stitch on a small smile with a strand of black yarn and your tapestry needle before you close the bottom of the tree.
Stump Feet (make 2):
with Red Heart Super Saver in Café Latte
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 6 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (12 SC)
Round 3: SC in first 4, 2 SC in next 4, SC in last 4, join, chain 1 (16 SC)
Round 4: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (16 SC)
Round 5: SC in first 6, SC Decrease twice, SC in last 6, join, chain 1 (14 SC)
Round 6: SC in first 5, SC Decrease twice, SC in last 5, join, chain 1 (12)
Round 7: SC in first 4, SC Decrease twice, SC in last 4, join, chain 1 (10 SC)
Round 8-11: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Stuff feet lightly with polyfil
pinch ends closed and stitch onto bottom of tree with feet sticking out.
Star (make 2):
with Red Heart Super Saver in Gold
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join,
Chain 5, SC in 3rd chain from hook, HDC in next, DC in last, skip one stitch in the magic ring round and join to the next (one star point made), repeat around making a total of 5 star points, join to bottom of first chain 5.
Once you have two stars made, slip stitch edges of the stars together so it’s sturdy. Leave a loose end so you can stitch it onto the top of the tree.
