Dollar Store Faux Succulent Pots

Succulent plants seem to be popular right now and for good reason too, they are easy to take care of and they are pretty! Unfortunately, I don’t have much of a green thumb. Yes, I did manage to kill a cacti 🙁 Good thing I came up with a way to bring some green into my house without having to worry about the responsibilities. These faux potted succulents were the perfect way to perk up my kitchen window sill and they were made on a budget! Those pots are actually square glass candleholders from the Dollar Tree. Yep, only $1 each! I painted the inside and filled them with small pebbles (also from the dollar store!) and then added fake succulent plants from Michaels floral department. Each potted plant didn’t cost more than $3.40! That is much better than the $30 price tag for these Pottery Barn Succulents, or these ones from Crate&Barrel (also $30).

Here is how you can make your own:
Materials:
– White acrylic paint
– Fake Succulent Plants. Michaels craft store currently sells succulent sprigs for $2.99-$3.99 each. Be sure to check their Weekly Ad and use their 50% off or 40% off one item coupon (there is always a coupon!). You can also find even more realistic looking succulents at Afloral.com (though they will cost a little more). Since we are painting the inside of the pots, you won’t want to use real plants.
You will need to water down your white paint so it easily pours. Not too thin, but just thin enough to coat the sides without having to “paint” it on. You should be able to swish it around the inside of the glass. Another option would be to spray paint the inside. 
Wipe paint drips off sides and top rim while still wet.

When paint is dry stuff bottom of pot with a paper towel or even some floral foam. Then cover with your river rocks. 
Now take your succulent sprig and pull out the individual plants.

They pull out just like this!

Arrange them in your pot and you are done!
Now you have perfect succulent pots that are maintenance free and budget friendly!

  9. dollar tree has the fake succulents now too…got mine online at their website. just google "dollar tree succulents." i used them to make a hanging barnwood framed mirror with a barnwood planter at the bottom of that i "planted" the succulents in (the pull right out of the styrofoam btw) and eye hooks to hold keys!!!

    this one cost 5 bucks…4 for the plants and 1 for the cheap mirror (all a buck a piece) salvaged the wood from the burn pile in the backyard!
