Crochet Yule Log Scarf

December 16, 2017

Every year during the holidays my kids get in their pajamas and take a picture with Grandma and Grandpa in front of the Yule Log. This is usually a TV yule log which we find OnDemand 🙂 But I always cherish these photos! And this years photo sparked the idea of a Crochet Yule Log Scarf! Just a simple brown scarf with with white around the edges and rolled up it looks like a yule log! You can make it as long and wide as you want. I made this particular scarf fairly wide (for beauty photo purposes) so when you wear it, you need to fold it in half and then wrap it around your neck. So warm and cozy!

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in Taupe Brown and Winter White. You will also need a bit of green and red for the holly leaf and berries. Shop colors on Yarnspirations.com.
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle

Finished Size: Approximately 45 inches longs x 11 inches wide.
Note: Feel free to make the scarf as long as you would like. I used one full skein of brown!

Scarf Pattern:
With brown
Chain 36, DC in 3 chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, chain 2, turn (34 DC)
Row 2-72: DC in each stitch across, chain 2, turn (34 SC)
Continue to SC along all edges, fasten off and weave in ends.
Join white yarn, slip stitch in back loops only around all edges of scarf. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Holly Leaf:
with green
Chain 7, SC in second chain from hook, SC in next, HDC in next 2, SC in next, 2 SC in last. Now working on other side of chain: SC in first two, HDC in next 2, SC in last two, join,
Round 2: chain 3, *slip stitch in 3rd chain from hook (this creates a point), skip a stitch on main leaf and join with a slip stitch to the next stitch, chain 3, repeat from * making 7 points around the leaf. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Berries:
with red
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 6 SC in ring, join to first SC, fasten off and weave in ends.

Make 4 leaves and 4 berries and stitch onto either end of the scarf.

(mini scarf made in the photo above for better log effect! It is not attached)

If you are looking for last minute christmas gifts, this is an easy one! Rolled up to look like a Yule Log, you don’t even need to wrap it. Just put a bow around the middle!
