We sure lucked out with the absolute BEST crossing guard at our elementary school! Mr. Dave is extra attentive and makes sure that both streets are safe to cross on our way to school. We have two crosswalks that he goes out of his way to stand in the middle of and block any traffic. He is keeps the children and families safe and we are so grateful! Plus he always has a smile on his face and we love chatting with him in the mornings and our way home from school. As our way of saying thank you, I crocheted him a stop sign gift card holder and placed it on a fun thank you card!
Here is a picture of Mr. Dave and my Kindergartner 🙂
– Bernat Super Value in Hot Red. Shop the yarn HERE at Yarnspirations.com
– Size H crochet hook
– Sticky white alphabet letters. I found mine at Michaels craft store in the scrapbooking section.
– 5×7 blank notecard which I also found at Michaels.
– Printable thank you message which you can download HERE. It fits on a 5×7 notecard.
Crocheting an octagon is super easy! I actually used the first two rounds of the Caron Earthly Tones Octagonal Afghan and then made one round of SC (2 SC in each corner) for the 3rd round. I used Bernat Super Value in Hot Red and a size H crochet hook. You will want to make two!
Use the sticky letters for the “STOP” lettering on one of the octagons. Leave a long strand on one of the crochet octagons because you will need to sew the two together, leaving a space at the top for the gift card.
Print out or write on the thank you message. I cut mine out and glued it onto the 5×7 notecard. Hot glue the stop sign into the middle of the message.
Write a personal note on the backside (or inside) of the notecard and it’s ready to gift!
Thank you to all the hard working Crossing Guards! We appreciate you!
