With just ONE granny square you can make an adorable little coin purse keychain pouch! I am using the new Red Heart All-in-One Granny Square Yarn which gives you the perfect pre-set color changes in each ball of yarn. I was able to get 15 granny squares from one skein so you could easily make dozens of these coin purse pouches!
If you like this project, don’t forget to check out my popular Granny Square Christmas Tree Ornaments which are also made from one square!
Additionally I am working on THIS GRANNY SQUARE BACKPACK using the All-in-One Granny Square Yarn color Amethyst. The pattern for the backpack calls for 14 squares and I was able to get 15 from my skein so of course I had to come up with a little accessory to go along with the backpack!
And so the idea for a coin purse pouch was born. I don’t think I will actually be keeping change in it since it isn’t lined, but it’s the perfect size for business cards, credit cards, gift cards, hotel room key cards, and more!
NOTE: I will post the finished Backpack soon! I got ahead of myself and finished this granny square purse pouch tutorial first.
I am attaching a 1.5 inch binder ring to the corner which seems to work really well for fitting through the granny square space in the corner and can easily clip onto the inside/outside of a purse or bag. You could also use a keyring or keychain.
>>You can shop Red Heart All-in-One Granny Square Yarn HERE on Yarnspirations.com<<
OR you can use any worsted weight yarn you have on hand to make a 5 round Granny Square.
Materials:
– Red Heart All-in-One Granny Square Yarn

– 1.5 inch Binder Ring (or Keyring/KeyChain)
– Tapestry Needle
– Extra strand of Black or White Yarn to stitch edges together.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR GRANNY SQUARE:
If you are having trouble getting pre-set color changes to work, try adjusting your tension a bit. It took me a few tries but then it was smooth sailing when I got in the groove.
Yarnspirations has a full video tutorial on how to make the granny squares HERE.
Follow the Video Tutorial on my YouTube Channel for directions on how to fold and stitch up this coin purse pouch. Or you can follow the photos below.
Now let’s fold our square! If you don’t have any extra loose ends from your granny square, cut a strand of black or white yarn (whatever matches your last round of your square) and use that to stitch the edges together as in the picture below.
Fold in 3 corners. It helps to have the middle corner overlapping on top the other two.
Stitch the edges together to make the pocket.
Don’t fasten off your yarn yet! Slide your yarn and needle over to the middle to sew on your button.
The top corner space is the loop that wraps around your button to close the pouch!
Add a keychain or binder ring to the corner space and you are finished!
Stuff with business cards, gift cards, trinkets, and more!
From one square to a cute pouch in minutes!
