Crochet Corn Dog Pattern

March 20, 2013

Did you know that this Saturday March 23rd is National Corn Dog Day?! Hehe, well I didn’t really expect you to know that. In fact, I recently found out myself that there is a day dedicated to corn dogs. You see, there is this little inside joke among some of my friends and I about corn dogs. I don’t remember how it started, but every time someone needs a recipe suggestion, gift idea, or something of that sort, one of us always chimes in with “Corn Dogs!” It’s the answer to everything 🙂 If you happen to be a corn dog fan or maybe you feel like celebrating National Corn Dog Day, you can whip up this cute little crochet corn dog!
Materials:
-Vanna’s Choice Yarn in Honey for the corn dog and Linen for the stick. Use Red or Yellow for the Ketchup and Mustard.
– Size G Crochet Hook
– Poly-Fil
-Tapestry Needle
Abbreviations:
SC = Single Crochet
SC Decrease = Single Crochet Decrease

Crochet Corn Dog Pattern

Magic ring, chain 1, SC 5 in ring, continue crochet in rounds (you may want to use a stitch marker to keep track of your rounds) and stuff with poly-fil as you go.
Round 2: 2 SC in each around (10 SC)
Round 3: 2 SC in each around (20 SC)
Round 4-23: SC around (20 SC)
Round 24: *SC, SC decrease in next, repeat from * around.
Round 25: SC decrease 5x, change color.
Round 25-34: SC around (5 SC)
Fasten off, weave yarn through end so it closes tightly.

Ketchup or Mustard
Chain 50, sew on the top of the corn dog with tapestry needle by weaving the needle through middle of each chain and through surface on the corn dog.

Here’s an idea… make the corn dogs a little smaller and shorter and make corn dog ornaments! I sent these to a friend as a gag gift for Christmas 🙂
Or how about a carnival themed gift for your favorite crocheter! I sent this to a different friend also as a holiday gift 🙂 Along with my crochet corn dog, I gave her a skien of yarn in a clear Starbucks cup with a crochet hook straw and popcorn containers from the dollar store filled with a gift card to Michaels, and a bag of popcorn.
