Bead Bows

June 20, 2014

With just a couple supplies (that you may already have) you can make these make fun bead bows! A great project to keep tweens or older children busy during the summer. I think they would make cute hair clips or tie them to some braided cord for a cool looking bracelet or necklace. Finished bows are about 3 inches long.

You could probably use a variety of different beads but I used pony beads, a 1/2 inch wooden bead for the center, and braiding cord from CraftProjectIdeas.com. You will want to make sure all your beads are big enough for multiple strands of the cord to go through.

Cut two strands of cord about 30″ long. Place large bead in center of the two strands.

Using a clip board or a chip clip, secure one side of your cord down.

String 4 pony beads onto one strand of the cord. Then string the other cord though the same beads going the opposite direction. It should look like the picture below.

Pull tight.

Now you will continue to string beads in rows of this order:
4 beads, 5 beads, 6 beads, 7 beads, 8 beads, 7 beads,  6 beads, 5 beads, 4 beads.
This will create a diamond shape. You should have a total of 9 rows.

Now do the same on the other side of the large center bead.

Fold “diamond” in half and string ends through the large bead.
Do the same for the other side and tie a knot.

Trim ends and hot glue to an alligator clip to make a hair clip. Or attach to a beaded or woven bracelet/necklace.

Sarah, you just inspired me to try this with sworovski crystals and wires, then hot glue it to a hairpin. It would be smaller but would be perfect for little baby girls 🙂 Thanks for the pattern.
