Crochet Doily Dream Catcher

September 15, 2014

Big brother (5yo) woke up last night and told me that he had a bad dream 🙁 So I thought a dream catcher would help keep those happy thoughts in his head at night. Dream-catchers are traditionally hung above the bed and used as a charm to protect sleeping people, usually children, from nightmares. Only good dreams would be allowed to filter through… Bad dreams would stay in the net.

Now here is the “catch” to this dream catcher, you don’t need any crochet skills to make it! I didn’t crochet one bit of it (although you could)… I purchased this crochet doily in the $1 section (check-out line) of Michaels Craft Store! It felt weird to purchase a crocheted item but with a price tag of $1 it was waayyy cheaper than the time and cost to make it myself.

Materials:
– Embroidery Hoop (mine was 8 inches)
– Yarn (I used Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable Yarn, Dragonfly)
– Crochet Doily (8 inches or large enough to fit inside your hoop). I purchased my doily for $1 at Michaels. If you can’t find one at your local craft store you can also purchase them on Amazon (LIKE THIS
)…but they are more than $1 🙁
If you are a crocheter then by all means feel free to crochet your own doily!!
HERE IS A GOOD PLACE to find FREE CROCHET DOILY PATTERNS
– Craft Feathers
– Pony Beads

First wrap your yarn around the embroidery hoop. No need to glue. Just tie your yarn on and start wrapping!

Cut 3 pieces of yarn and tie them to the bottom of your hoop. String on pony beads. Tie end of string onto feather.

Now you will want to attach the points of your doily onto the inside edges of the hoop. I found it easiest to use a tapestry needle to do this. You can even weave in the ends to make them as hidden as possible.

Create a loop of yarn on top so you can hang it on a bedroom wall or in front of the window.

super cute dream catcher! I would have never thought to use a doily – premade or not, so great idea. How's his dreams been since?
