Here is Day 11 of my 26 Days of Crochet Animal Alphabet Appliques!
K is for Kangaroo
This little Kangaroo will bounce right onto your blanket to represent the letter K! The little pouch stays open so you can put a little baby kanga in there or maybe a sweet little note for the person receiving the blanket!?
Materials:
– Worsted weight yarn. I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in chocolate and beige and little bit of black for the eyes and mouth
– Size G Crochet Hook (the bigger the hook the bigger the appliqué and vice versa)
– Tapestry needle
SC = Single Crochet
DC = Double Crochet
Kangaroo Applique Pattern:
Chain 9, HdC in 3rd chain from hook, and in next 3, DC in next 2, make 6 DC in last chain…
Now working on other side of chain, DC in next 2, HDC in next 4, join to top of first HDC.
Ears: attach yarn to side of head. Chain 4, Sl St in next, HDC in last two, join to same stitch as where you started. Do the same on other side of head.
Stitch on two eyes and nose with black yarn and tapestry needle.
Body: Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 9 HDC in ring, join, ch 1
Round 2: 2 HDC in each stitch around, join, ch 1 (18 HDC)
Round 3: 2 HDC in first, HDC in next, repeat around, join. ch 1 (27 HDC)
Round 4: SC in next 4, slip stitch in next. Fasten off weave in ends.
Pouch: Magic Ring, 8 HDC in ring, ch 1, turn
Row 2: 2 HDC in each stitch. SC across the top edge of pouch, fasten off and sew onto body leaving top open.
Row 2: 2 HDC in each stitch. SC across the top edge of pouch, fasten off and sew onto body leaving top open.
Tail: Chain 12, slip stitch in next, SC in next, HDC, HDC Decrease, DC in next 4, TC in last two. Fasten off and leave tail to sew onto body.
Sew all pieces together!
EDIT: I just realized in this tutorial that I put the ears on the wrong side of the head! You will want the wider part of the head to be on top and the smaller part to be where the nose it. I have it upside down in the picture below but correct in the main picture on top! Although I suppose it could really go either way 🙂

This is SO cute! What are you going to do with all these appliques when you reach the end of the alphabet? They'd look cute on a little blanket.
Where is the baby in the pouch? :0)
