Here is Day 25 of my 26 Days of Crochet Animal Alphabet Appliques!
Y is for Yak
Wow I can’t believe there is only one more day left of my animal appliqués! That went by too fast. I’m not sure where else you would use a Yak appliqué unless you are crocheting the alphabet but maybe a couple of you will find another use for it 🙂
Materials:
– Worsted weight yarn. I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in chocolate brown, white, black and a little bit of beige.
– Size G Crochet Hook (the bigger the hook the bigger the appliqué and vice versa)
– Tapestry needle
SC = Single Crochet
SC Decrease = Single Crochet Decrease
SC Decrease = Single Crochet Decrease
HDC = Half Double Crochet
DC = Double Crochet
Yak Appique Pattern:
Magic ring, chain 1 and make 8 SC in ring, join, chain 1,
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 2
Round 3: 2 DC in first, DC in next, 2 DC, DC, 2 HDC, HDC, 2 HDC, HDC, 2 DC, DC, 2 DC, DC, 2 HDC, HDC, 2 HDC, HDC, join, fasten off
Horns:
With white
Attach and chain 7, SC in 2nd chain from hook, SC in next, SC Decrease over next two, SC in last two attach to same spot.
Leave three stitch spaces along top and attach yarn, chain 6, SC in 2nd ch from hook, SC in next, 2 SC in next, SC in last two, attach to same spot.
Attach and chain 7, SC in 2nd chain from hook, SC in next, SC Decrease over next two, SC in last two attach to same spot.
Leave three stitch spaces along top and attach yarn, chain 6, SC in 2nd ch from hook, SC in next, 2 SC in next, SC in last two, attach to same spot.
Ears:
With light brown, attach yarn in stitch below horn
Chain 3, SC in 2nd chain from hook, HDC in next, join to same spot, do the same on other side under horn.
With light brown, attach yarn in stitch below horn
Chain 3, SC in 2nd chain from hook, HDC in next, join to same spot, do the same on other side under horn.
Eyes: (Make 2)
Magic ring, chain 1 and make 5 SC in ring, pull tight and join. Add french knot for eyeball. With tapestry needle, stitch eyes on so that they are touch each other.
Stitch on nostrils with light brown.

I'm really loving the crochet along! I'm a bit sad it's ending, but I'm going to use them as appliqués for an ABC quilt… I'll be honest the quilt idea came second to just enjoying making the animals 😉 thank you for the patterns 🙂
