3D Crochet Christmas Tree

October 29, 2015

3Dtree1

This 3D crochet Christmas Tree looked better in my mind but I thought I would go ahead and post the pattern anyway 🙂 I figured you guys could add to it… maybe tiny yarn ball ornaments, pom-poms, or maybe even a little crochet tree skirt? Make it a fun piece to include with your holiday decor! It works up really quickly so you could easily make a whole forest!

Materials:
– Worsted weight yarn is green and brown. I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in Fern and Honey.
– Size H crochet hook
– Tapestry needle
– One pipe cleaner
– Something to weight the bottom (marbles, small pebble, large pony beads, etc)
Long strip:
with green yarn
chain 5, SC in second chain from hook and rest of the way down chain, chain 1, turn (4 SC)
Row 2: SC in first, chain 2, SC in last, chain 1, turn
Row 3: SC in first, 2 SC over chain 2, SC in last, chain 1, turn
Row 4-10: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (4 SC)
Row 11: SC in first, chain 2, SC in last, chain 1, turn
Row 12: SC in first, 2 SC over chain 2, SC in last, chain 1, turn
Row 13-25: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (4 SC)
Row 26:SC in first, chain 2, SC in last, chain 1, turn
Row 27: SC in first, 2 SC over chain 2, SC in last, chain 1, turn
Row 28-43: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn
Row 44:SC in first, chain 2, SC in last, chain 1, turn
Row 45: SC in first, 2 SC over chain 2, SC in last, chain 1, turn
Row 46-50: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn
Don’t fasten off, continue to SC around with a simple picot stitch: SC + Chain 2, Slip stitch in second chain from hook, SC in next 2, all the way around.
Tree trunk:
magic ring, chain 1 and make 8 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (16 SC)
Round 3: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1 (24 SC)
Round 4: in back loops only, SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (24 SC)
Round 5: now working both loops, SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (24 SC)
Round 6: SC decrease, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
Be sure to weight the bottom of the trunk at this point (use marbles, a small stone, beads, etc).
Round 7: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 8: SC decrease around, join chain 1
Round 9-25: SC in each each stitch around until its the height you like.
Put pipe cleaner (fold pipe cleaner in half) in before sewing shut.
Stick trunk through holes in green strip.
Sew tiny star to top!

How sweet! And you could make it even more 3D by adding a second strip in the opposite direction and alternating it between the layers of first strip!

    Can’t wait to try it!

Good idea! On making it more 3D , could one make skinner strips and make say 4 strips and have a fuller tree??? Just wondering, I might try it.
      Thanks for the pattern!!

On second thought after looking closer I don’t think skinner strips would work.
        Thanks again for the pattern!!

This is so cute! I’ve been trying to make some for my grandkids but must be doing something wrong. My strip seems short n only 4 holes. Yours appears to be 5 holes n longer. What am I doing wrong? Help!

I am with two of the other ladies in their confusion. Your picture of the tree shows 5 holes for the trunk but when you make up the very cute tree the pattern has you making only 4 holes. Can you correct this for me/us. Thank you.

I am confused like 2 of the other ladies. Your picture of the tree shows 5 holes but when I made this Very cute tree there were only 4 holes. Can you fix the pattern for us or tell us how we can fix this so we get 5 holes? Thank you & crochet on.

2019 and I am soooooo late to the party. I book marked this tree intending to make it; now it is March 2019 and I’m making it. Yup, your pattern works up to 4 holes, not 5. I imagine I will rectify this myself after I finish the strip as written and look it over. I wanted to add this to Ravelry when hooked but I don’t find the pattern there in the database. Anyhow, 4 years later, you’ve likely moved on from this pattern/post, especially seeing as several prior posters mentioned the 4 holes vs. 5 holes situation. Cute pattern though.
