Some of my blogging friends and I have all teamed up to throw a “Virtual Baby Shower” for one of our best blogging buddies, the incomparable Lauren Lanker of The Thinking Closet! She and her husband, Mark, are expecting their first baby – a precious little girl – this June. Every blogger has contributed something different to our shower, and we have all the elements covered. So grab a cupcake and stay for a while!
I made this Crochet Scalloped Earflap Hat and Flower specifically with her little baby girl in mind 🙂 I love the sweet simplicity of the scalloped edge and the coordinating flower embellishment is also made with the same scallops! I prefer the tightness of the single crochet stitches for the hat rounds but you could use a basic DC or HDC hat pattern as well.
Materials:
– Bernat Super Value (worsted weight) Yarn in White, Lavender, and Fern (or choose from a variety of colors at Yarnspirations.com!)
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle
Size: 0-3 Months:
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 11 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (22 SC)
Round 3: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (22 SC)
Round 4: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1 (33 SC)
Round 5: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (33 SC)
Round 6: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1 (44 SC)
Round 7-20: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (44 SC)
Don’t fasten off, and being on earflap pattern below

Row 9: SC decrease, and continue to make Scallops around hat: Skip 1 stitch, 4 HDC in next stitch, skip 1 stitch and join to next with a slip stitch, skip 1, 4 HDC in next, skip 1 and join with slip stitch, repeat around.
Begin to roll scallops and sew together using tapestry needle.

This is a really cute pattern, and I’ve been following the pattern to the letter – but it keeps coming out too small. I’ve done the 3 – 6 month pattern and it won’t even fit a 1 month old. Don’t know whether the babies I’ve seen just have big heads or if there is a way to change what I’m doing! Any advice/tips would be appreciated!
