Crochet Sheep Drawstring Bag

April 6, 2016

SheepBag1

My Snowman Sack was such a hit I wanted to revisit the design and create other characters! And wouldn’t you know it, just by altering my Lamb Hat Pattern, I was able to make an adorable Sheep Drawstring Bag! Fill it with gifts, goodies, accessories, even a ball of yarn and hook for on-the-go crocheting!

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value Yarn (worsted weight) in Winter White and a bit of beige or gray and pink for the face/accent pieces. You can find the entire line of Bernat Super Value at Yarnspirations.com.
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Safety eyes or Comic safety eyes (you can purchase those here). Alternatively you could use yarn for face embellishments.
– Tapestry needle
Abbreviations:
Bobble Stitch = See tutorial HERE
SC = Single Crochet
HDC = Half Double Crochet
DC = Double Crochet
Finished Size = Approximately 8 inches tall and 7 inches wide when laid flat.
Bobble Bag:
with winter white yarn
Magic Ring, chain 2, 8 HDC in magic ring, join to first HDC, chain 2 (8 HDC)
Round 2: HDC and then Bobble in first stitch and in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (8 HDC + 8 Bobble = 16)
Round 3: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (32 SC)
Round 4: HDC in first stitch, Bobble in next stitch, repeat around, join, chain 2 (16 HDC + 16 Bobble = 32)
Round 5: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next 7, repeat around, join, chain 2 (36 SC)
Round 6: HDC in first stitch, Bobble in next stitch, repeat around, join, chain 2 (18 HDC + 18 Bobble = 36)
Round 7: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (36 SC)
Round 8-16: Repeat round 6 and 7.
Round 17: DC in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (36 DC) – This will be the row your drawstring is woven through.
Round 18-20: Repeat around 6 and 7 (ending on a bobble round).
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Drawstring:
with any color desired- I used pink and tied it into a bow when bag closes 🙂
Chain 85, slip stitch in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Weave in and out of DC crochet stitches from row 17.

Sheep Ears:Refer to my Lamb Hat Pattern for a more detailed tutorial if needed.

Outer Ear: (Make 2) – use winter white yarn
Chain 8, HDC in second chain from hook and in the next 6, make 2 HDC in last chain

Round 2: 2 DC in the first 3 stitches, 2 HDC in next stitch, 2 SC in the next 8, 2 HDC in next stitch, 2 DC in last 3, join, fasten off leaving long tail to sew ear onto hat.

    This is adorable! I can also see this as a goodie bag for a (small, if I want my hand to survive) party, like a baby shower or Easter hunt. Thank you!

    Thank you for your clear and easily understood instructions! I have been trying to make a lamb like this for a friend and just could not justify giving it to her with all of the gaping holes that the other patterns left! This is perfect! Not only can it be used as a purse for a little girl, but if you stuff it and tie the top tight, it can be a cuddly toy for a baby! Thank you!

    So cute! I was looking for something to make into a doorstop and the drawstring top is perfect so the weights can be removed and the bag washed; although I’ll make mine as a black sheep! Thank you for sharing the pattern!

    hi
    after you do a bobble stitch so you chain 1? it doesn’t look like you are doing hdc after each bobble stitch. is that correct? loooks like you are doing bobble stitch ch1 and then sc in next st and then bobble stitch in next.

    Was looking for note in the information page how to make the bobble. Want to make this for someone who has a birthday very soon and not sure how to proceed before knowing how you have done the bobble portion. Thank you. This is a very cute idea. Anxious to make it.

    I collect sheep and a friend just sent me a link to this site. I think I will have to make a few of these adorable little guys to add to my collection and probably some for the grandkids as well. Thanks for a lovely pattern!
