Crochet Halloween Black Cat Wreath

August 5, 2016

HalloweenWreath1

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays to decorate for! And I’ve got a head start on my DIY decor with this Crochet Halloween Cat Wreath! It’s a fun combination of crochet and other crafty elements that I picked up from Michaels Craft Store. Let me show you how it came together!

First you will need to make a Crochet Black Cat. You can find my cat pattern HERE!

Here are the supplies you will need for the wreath:
– 12 inch foam wreath form (found at Michaels Craft Store)
– Wooden craft fence (found at Michaels Craft Store in the wooden crafts section – it measures 9 x 4.5)
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in Carrot (one skein).
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Green Felt (stiff felt works better)
– Hot Glue Gun
Optional:
– Wooden Trick or Treat lettering (found at Michaels Craft Store in the seasonal Halloween section)

For the Spider:
– 2 black pipe cleaners
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in Black
– Safety Eyes (found HERE)
– Small amount of polyfil fiber stuffing (or you can stuff with scrap yarn)

Instructions:
With your H hook and Bernat Super Value yarn in Carrot color…

Chain 21, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down the chain, chain 1, turn (20 SC)
Rows 2-132: SC in each stitch, chain 1, turn (20 SC)
I actually stopped at 122 rows but depending on your tension you may need more rows. If you get more/less than 132, that is ok. The yarn is stretchy. Leave long tail for sewing it onto styrofoam wreath.
When you wrap your crocheted strip around the wreath make sure your rows match up. Now take your tapestry needle and start stitch it together. It always looks like it won’t work out, but keep matching up the beginning of the row to the end of the same row and it will all come together with no lumps or bumps at the end. I promise!

Next you will line up your green felt and wooden fence. You will want to hot glue the fence on first and then the green felt on top of that. You will need to trim the edges of the felt.

Now lets work on your cute little spider!
HallWreath_Spider
With H hook and black yarn,
Magic ring, chain 1 and make 6 SC in ring, join to first SC, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (12 SC)
Round 3-6: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (12 SC)
Round 7: SC decrease, SC in next, repeat around, join chain 1
Add red safety eyes and stuff with poly-fil fiber stuffing
Round 8: SC decrease until closed (at this point you may even be able to sew it shut with tapestry needle.
Weave in ends.
Fold pipe cleaner in half and then half again. This will give you  4 equal pieces that you can then cut. Do this to a second pipe cleaner. You should now have 8 legs.
Bend each piece of pipe cleaner  and poke into sides of spider body so they look like spider legs. You can use a dab of hot glue to secure them if you’d like.
Spider body is about 1.5 inches wide and with legs it is about 3 inches wide.
Now add your finishing touches to the wreath! Prop you crochet black cat up in the middle of the wreath. Stitch his ear and his bottom onto wreath or hot glue if you are feeling lazy ;).
With a long strand of black yarn, hang your spider from the bottom right corner of the wreath. Tie the yarn to the spiders back (you will need your tapestry needle for this).
Hot glue the Trick or Treat sign on if desired. There are many other wooden signs and lettering available for purchase or cut your own of felt or yarn! Feel free to add other elements as well!

Use a command hook to hook it to your door! The hook can slip between the crocheted stitches on the back of your wreath.

Your DIY wreath will be the talk of the neighborhood! Happy Halloween!

Hi – thanks so much for the awesome pattern! I am going to make this soon. 🙂 I have a quick question – how wide is the foam wreath form? Thanks so much!

I was wondering if by chance you might have a dog pattern I could use for this also? We have a rescue farm where I live and would love to make this for them with their mascot (deaf & blind dog). He would only need one eye, he has a permanent wink, he’s absolutely adorable!

The Michael’s near me doesn’t carry the fence piece (the cashier said they discontinued that piece and only have it at bigger stores), neither does Jo-Ann. Can you suggest any other place to look?

This was amazing article that has all information on it this was amazing to have all details that was about to know. Parazone herbicide, similar to Gramoxone, is an excellent choice when choosing a herbicide for spring burndown. Parazone 3SL contains 3.0 pounds of active ingredient paraquat cation per gallon as 4.14 pounds of dichloride salt per gallon

Tigris herbicide reduces the risk of weeds developing resistance to mesotrione in corn, always use full specified label rates. When applying Tigris Meso 4 SC post-emergence after a mesotrione-containing pre-emergence herbicide, add atrazine as a tank mix partner.
