Crochet Big Red Bow

November 29, 2017

Big Red Bows make festive decor during the holiday season and now you can crochet one! Hang it on your door, wreath, tree, packages, and more! I’ve written out a simple pattern but included a little video tutorial to show a few of the steps that might be confusing (like the standing stitches and how to tie the bow). And of course the bow can be made in any color you choose! Can’t wait to see your versions of this big beautiful bow!

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in Berry Red. Shop all colors at Yarnspirations.com.
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle

Finished size is approx. 9 inches long by 7 inches tall

You will need to know how to make tall crochet stitches. Here is a great tutorial from Moogly. I also go over it in my video below so there is no confusion!

Ribbon Pattern:
Chain 12, HDC in 3rd chain from hook and rest of way down, chain 2, turn
Row 2-65: HDC in each stitch across, chain 2, turn.
Now continue to make the triangles for the edge of the ribbon
Triangle edge: chain 8, *SC in first, HDC, DC, tc, 4 tall crochet, 5 tall crochet, 6 tall crochet, skip 4 stitches, join with slip stitch, chain 8 and repeat from *, join, fasten off and weave in ends.
Repeat the entire triangle edge on other side of ribbon.

Middle tie:
Chain 7, HDC in 3rd chain from Hook and rest of the way down, chain 2, turn
Row 2-12: HDC in each stitch across, fasten off leaving long tail.

Fold ribbon like picture below.

Scrunch together the center and stitch your middle tie around.

Decided to add my red bows to my kitchen cabinets! I crocheted a long strip (8 HDC across) that fit the length of my cabinet and then taped it on the inside of the cabinet and taped the bow on top of the long crocheted strip. A little scotch guard and I’m done!

    HI,
Could you, please, write, in brackets, the crochet hook size in millimeters?
    Thank you.
    Love your work!

Hi Sarah, Any idea approximately how many yards or ounces of yarn the bow takes to make?

This night just be the pattern that I was looking for! A friend has been wanting me to make a giant Christmas bow but I haven’t been able to find the right pattern. You mentioned the final product is roughly 9*7″. Could you give me some pointers on how to make it even bigger? Maybe even twice as big?
