This girl has had more injuries than both of her brothers combined! Ugh! My sweet Zoe was jumping on the trampoline at gymnastics class and landed wrong on her right leg. We just left the pediatric orthopedist and it looks like she broke her tibia. This might mean she will be hanging out at home with me for awhile until she can get used these crutches or we figure out another way for her to get around (we are considering a wheelchair or stroller). She currently can’t bear any weight on her right leg.
The first request I got was to crochet crutch covers! I went straight for my Caron Chunky Cakes yarn which is super bulky and soft. Plus it has the perfect colors that add some pizzazz to the metal crutches. In fact, I might just have to yarn bomb the rest of the crutches to make them as pretty as possible for my princess!

Knee brace for now. We are going to wait and see if the whole leg needs to be casted. Send your positive thoughts and prayers to Zoe for a quick healing. At least she’s in good spirits!

I wish you a Speedy recovery Zoe!!! Great looking crutches you have there. Once you get use to the crutches they won’t be able to stop you.
Ooooo speedy recovery Zoe. The crutches look great 😀
Best wishes for a rapid recovery!
Poor Zoe, I hope your leg heals quickly for you. What a happy little girl, putting a brave face on it.
Praying for a speedy recovery for Zoe. She is a little doll.
Sarah, I strongly suggest that your next project be covers for the hand holds on the crutches. I was on crutches in high school, and after just a few days, I had to wrap cloth around the hand holds because I was getting blisters on my palms. The cloth was the perfect fix, but super soft yarn would work even better, I’m sure. I simply wasn’t as creative as you are because I would have wanted those crutch covers! Wishing Zoe a super speedy recovery!
Hope for a speedy recovery Zoe! I can feel your pain. When I broke mine I had a walker and had to learn to hop and shimmy. When I could finally put weight on my leg I almost forgot how to walk.
Sending prayers for a speedy recovery for Zoe. Awesome crutch covers Sarah.
I, too, like the others wish to send you good wishes, speedy recovery – you are in my prayers – take care. Lucky girl – love those crutch covers . Keep your spirits up (those crutch covers colours are nice & bright will help do that. Lucky girl to have such a talented & thoughtful Mom.
Poor Zoe! I hope her leg heals quickly!
I have a granddaughter named Zoe. She just turned five and also takes dance and gymnastics!
Hope for her Speedy recovery. and its looking really amazing. good one.you can also have some good food and care for her.
Well wishes on a speedy recovery…I’m on crutches now as well. I will be making these for myself!. Thank you!
Did they size turn out okay for adult size crutches?
That’s really nice. It’ll be more comfortable for the disabled. The thought put in this matter is really appreciatable.
Perfect!
I just got my first set of crutches today after having surgery to repair a torn ACL in my left knee. An injury courtesy of a trampoline park… Rather than getting a new set, we had an old pair that a friend gave us so the “pads” are a little less squishy. After a quick search, this was the first pattern I came across. I’m thinking I might make a few sets in different colors so I can match my mood/outfit for the day. Haha. Especially since I’m going to have A LOT of downtime on my hands now.
Thanks! I’m getting started right now!
And Zoe, I hope you heal up quick and get back to fun! ♀️
Having to have foot surgery I got some crutches and I am working up this pattern… I think on rnd 7 … the dec at the one end is missing..
Nice blog post on this topic. This is really a nice and informative, containing all information and also has a great impact on the new technology.
I will send you the best wishes. you recovered very fast. its not easy for a child.
Really inspiring post, hope for the best. I have also feel sad for the child and send my best wishes to her.
My best wishes are with the girl, hope she recover fast and enjoy her childhood.
Thank you so much! I “stumbled” on this pattern while I’m on crutches. I didn’t have the chunky yarn so I used Lion Brand Mandala yarn, 2 strands at a time. They fit perfect!
Are the crutches normal sized crutches? or was this pattern made for half width crutches or something? thank you!
