I am making an Earth Day Crochet Counting Quiet Book! Back in 2012 I created an Earth Day Felt Book for my boys when they were just babies (you can see it here) and ever since then I knew I wanted to take the time to replicate the original piece into crochet! Although the first book only had 6 pages, I had planned on it being 10 pages. I am so excited to finally bring this idea to life!
I will be posting each page separately in a series of 10 blog posts and then one final post to showcase the whole book and how to put it together. They will all be posted in time for Earth Day on April 22nd!
You can also use these “pages” as granny squares and create a blanket instead!
I am using Bernat Super Value because of it’s wide range of colors (53 colors to choose from!) and because its a very sturdy worsted weight yarn. You will want to start shopping and stocking up HERE at Yarnspirations.com.

Today I am posting the first page in the book: 1 Earth!

Materials:
–Bernat Super Value in Lush Green
-Bernat Super Value in Hot Blue
-Bernat Super Value in Oatmeal
-Size H Crochet Hook
-Tapestry Needle

First you will want to make the book “page” or the background square (whichever you want to refer to it as). The dimensions of each square are approximately 9×9 (actually mine is more like 8.75 x 8.75) which is a great size for a granny square or book page!
Crochet Book Page:
with oatmeal (cream) color yarn
Chain 31, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, chain 1, turn (30 SC)
Row 2-35: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Don’t fasten off. Let’s talk for a minute
Your piece should be kind of an octagon shape. To make it round, you will SC LOOSELY along the 4 diagonal edges and SC TIGHTLY on the top, bottom, and right and left hand side edges. I went ahead and switched colors along my edge to match the green and blue land and water parts. You can do this or just SC around in one consistent color. See pictures HERE.
With a long strand of yarn (either blue or green) stitch the earth onto the crochet page. Work tapestry needle under the edges where there tops of the SC stitch are.

The number is crocheted with a series of chain stitches. The top part of the number 1 is a count of 10 chains. You will want to stitch it on with your tapestry needle working in the middle of the chain stitches. Then attach the bottom part of the number 1 by making 5 chain stitches.

J’adore votre projet concernant la planete
Merci a vous pour les explications
So excited! I can’t wait to see it come alive. Thank you for publishing this series. I follow your blog daily.
I love this! I’ve been looking for a quiet book to make for my toddler twin grandchildren, but hadn’t yet found one I had fallen in love with. This is it!
Could you please include a composite list of all of the colors you used, so that when I shop for yarn, I can get it all at the same time? Since I must make TWO of everything I make, saving time is important!!! Thanks in advance.
I have the same question! I really want to make this but would like to purchase all the needed yarn at the same time.
Yes! A complete list of colors used would be great!
It looks like we are going to have to wait until all 10 are posted and then compile a shopping list. I would have preferred to have everything prior to Winter Storm Wesley, but it is what it is. I’ll find another project to fill my time.
I would like to see your original felt version, but I can’t find a link..

I love this idea and have made many of your creations but I cannot get this to print ! Help please !?
Have you solved your printing problem? I haven’t had a problem, but when I do I try highlighting the portion I want to print, right clicking on the mouse and then choosing print. That will usually work for me. Hope you’ve been able to resolve your issue.
I am not finding the pattern for page 2

It doesn’t sound like you are including a cover . Wish you would as I am not the best at designing stuff.
Is it possible to obtain a printed copy?
This is a beautiful piece. Do you give permission to sell items made following this pattern, as long as there is a link to the source?
I used Lily the original Sugar’n Cream cotton worsted 4 ply Country Sage Ombre for the land portions of the pattern. (I found a skein at a yard sale a few days before and decided to try it out on this project.) The results remind me of the maps you used to see in textbooks with the types of landforms in a country represented by different colors. Even my husband, who rarely comments on my projects, thought that it was cool.
Wow, your works look so beautiful, I have always wanted to make things like this, but I can`t sit in one place for a long time. So I can only enjoy my grandmother’s works. I want to share with you my work`s experience too, I am a writer and I love to make research on music so much, check https://studyhippo.com/music-appreciation-final/ this one, written by me. I made this music appreciation final test to help students from all over the world.
I love your work and your colors! I’m excited to try a quiet book of my own and am compiling yarn now. The Bernat Super Value yarn looks superb. How much yarn do you think you used for just the page (background) for each page? Also, how did you build the book after all the pages are done? Did you sew the back’s of pages together or do anything to keep the back of each page good looking? Thank you so much!`
I habe your patterns for pages 1-8. Where do I look for the last 2 pages?
