I’ve been busy making more cute Christmas Character tote bags! Santa and a Snowman are joining the adorable Gingerbread Tote Bag I posted a few days ago (SEE THE GINGERBREAD TOTE BAG POST HERE). And I have more designs coming! Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Hanukkah! The best part about these totes bags is that they all use a basic base pattern. You will just need to change colors in different spots and each tote has it’s own unique embellishments.
The gingerbread tote has a bit of different design because of the two rows of v-stitches that make that fun rick-rack/zig-zag pattern. The video below shows the gingerbread tote and basic tote bag pattern.
I used two strands of Bernat Super Value (worsted weight) yarn to crochet these totes. You could use one strand (the overall size would be smaller) but I really recommend crocheting with a double strand. It makes it extremely sturdy and I love how the single crochet stitches fill in so nicely with no holes and less stretching.
There are a few different ways you can crochet with a double strand:
1. You could pull from the middle and outer strand of the skein at the same time (but you are most likely going to run into tangles).
2. You could roll your entire skein into two balls
3. You can buy two skeins and pull from the middle of both skeins at the same time (this is the method I use!)
Materials:
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in White, Berry Red, Black, and Bright Yellow (Shop colors at Yarnspirations.com)
– Size I (5.5mm) Crochet Hook
– Two 1 inch black buttons
– Tapestry Needle
The finished size is approximately 11 inches wide by 12 inches tall. 16 inches tall including the handles.

I am so excited to make these and the Halloween ones. I noticed in the materials you used 2 of the skeins for the main color (i.e. the red in the Santa bag); do you need the full 2 skeins or do you have some left when the project is done?

I finished the snowman and he is adorable. I used Red Heart Super Saver. It is 7 oz also, supposedly. Not wanting to go to the store and get a second skein, I decided to split it in half. Using my kitchen scale, I put the full skein on (It initially measured 7.2 oz.) and pulled off 1/2 winding it as I pulled. Running out of yarn at the handles, I decided to make the handles in black to appear as the snowman’s hat. Cute!
Somewhere along the line, my join and chain 1 started spiraling up the side of the bag. This made my handles off by a little but it still looks adorable so I’m not frogging the whole thing.
Thanks for your creativity and for sharing

How can these patterns be printed? They are so cute but I have visual difficulties and need the printed patterns to be able to see the instructions. I would really be blessed with all three of the Christmas ones and the Halloween ones as well
