Crochet Gingerbread Tote Bag

July 6, 2020

Merry Christmas in July! I honestly could crochet Christmas designs all year round. They are so cute + fun + festive! I designed this Crochet Gingerbread Tote Bag that you can use during the holiday season. An easy pattern that you can start on now (to get ahead on your Christmas crochet projects) or wait until the last minute to whip up this tote (it’s very easy and quick). Keep it for yourself or gift it! It would actually make a perfect little gift bag. Fill it with a store bought toy or other presents. It fits two bottles of wine if you want to bring a little something to an adult holiday party or family gathering. Lots of ways to use this crochet bag and I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

The finished size is approximately 11 inches wide by 12 inches tall. 16 inches tall including the handles.

I used two strands of Bernat Super Value (worsted weight) yarn to crochet this tote. You could use one strand (the overall size would be smaller) but I really recommend crocheting with a double strand. It makes it extremely sturdy and I love how the single crochet stitches fill in so nicely with no holes and less stretching.

There are a few different ways you can crochet with a double strand:
1. You could pull from the middle and outer strand of the skein at the same time (but you are most likely going to run into tangles).
2. You could roll your entire skein into two balls
3. You can buy two skeins and pull from the middle of both skeins at the same time (this is the method I use!)

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in Topaz, White, and Red (I purchased two skeins of the topaz brown from Yarnspirations.com)
Note: if sold out, you can try THIS Amazon link
– Size I (5.5mm) Crochet Hook
– Two 1 inch black buttons
– Tapestry Needle

Here is a video on how to crochet the gingerbread tote!
