Small Potatoes Crochet Pattern

Oh the things I do for my kids! I dropped everything today to crochet them potatoes… yes potatoes! Because apparently the song “Small Potatoes” is trending again. I remember it from when they were much younger. It was a Disney TV short with a catchy little tune. They played it between shows on the Disney Channel. Supposedly it’s become popular on TikTok and although they don’t have TikTok accounts, they are able to see these things trending on YouTube Kids.

You can make potatoes too! Grab some brown worsted weight yarn and let’s get started!

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value yarn I colors Honey and Taupe
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Poly-fil Fiber Stufing
– Small Safety Eyes
– Pink Marker Pen for cheeks!

Potato 1:
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join to first SC and chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 3: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 4-12: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1

Potato 1 – shorter version:
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join to first SC and chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 3: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1 
Round 4-11: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 12: SC Decrease, SC in next 4, repeat around, join, chain 1

Round 13: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 14: SC Decrease, SC in next 3, repat around, join, chain 1
Round 15: SC in each stitch around join, chain 1
now is good time to add safety eyes and stitch on a mouth
start stuffing with polyfil
Round 16: SC Decrease, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 17: SC Decrease, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 18: finish adding polyfil and SC Decrease until close. 
Fasten off leaving a long strand of yarn

To make the indents, use your tapestry needle to pull the long strand of yarn through the sides of the potato where you want it to indent. See picture.

Potato 2 – taller version: 

Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join to first SC and chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 3: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1 
Round 4-9: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 10: SC Decrease, SC in next 3, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 11-14: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 15: SC Decrease, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 16-18: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
now is good time to add safety eyes and stitch on a mouth
start stuffing with polyfil
Round 19: SC Decrease, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 20: SC Decrease until closed 

Fasten off leaving a long strand of yarn
