Easy Crochet Bat Applique

Make a crochet bat in minutes! This cute little applique is perfect for any of your halloween projects. Add it to hats, blankets, cup cozies, totes and more!

The finished bat is about 4 inches wide and will work nicely on my Halloween Haunted House C2C project. I am sure you will find lots of uses for this little guy!

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Black.
Stock up on your basic colors at Yarnspirations.com! I can’t believe I recently ran out of black yarn.
– Size H crochet Hook

Bat Pattern:
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 8 SC in ring, join to first SC
Round 2: chain 2, Slip stitch in 2nd chain from hook, slip stitch to next stitch in round, chain 2 again, Slip stitch in 2nd chain from hook, slip stitch to next stitch in round (second bat ear made), chain 8 (first wing), *SC in second chain from hook, HDC in next, DC + chain 2 all in next stitch, slip stitch in next, SC, HDC, DC + chain 2 in last chain, slip stitch around until you get to the first bat ear, TURN, chain 8 (second wing) and repeat from * until second wing is made. Fasten off!

  1. Start by making a magic ring. Alternatively, you can chain 4 and join with a slip stitch to form a ring.

    Round 1: In the magic ring, crochet 6 single crochet (sc) stitches. If you made a chain ring, crochet 6 sc stitches into the fourth chain from the hook. Join with a slip stitch to the first sc to close the round.

    Round 2: Chain 1 (does not count as a stitch), then work 2 sc stitches into each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the first sc to close the round. You should now have 12 stitches.

    Round 3: Chain 1, then work 1 sc in the next stitch, 2 sc in the following stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the first sc to close the round. You should now have 18 stitches.

    Rounds 4-5: Chain 1, then work 1 sc in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the first sc to close the round. Repeat this for the next round as well. You should still have 18 stitches in each round.
