Festive crochet mug rugs are a quick and easy project for any season! A mug rug is similar to a coaster but it’s typically a bit bigger and is shaped like a rug. I made several basic color mug rugs but I also made a few that are fun as we head into the holiday season.

Caron Little Crafties Yarn is perfect for this project! Each pack comes with 20 small skeins of yarn in different shades. You can make so many designs, characters, and sets of mug rugs just from one pack!

Materials:
– Caron Little Crafties Yarn (one mini ball makes 2 mug rugs)
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle
– Scissors
Finished Size: 8 x 4 inches (with fringe)
Basic Mug Rug Pattern:
Chain 19, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, chain 1, turn (18 SC)
Row 2-20: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (18 SC)
Fasten off after round 20, weave in ends.
Fringe: Cut 40 strands of yarn about 8 inches in length. Loop two strands of yarn along edge at time. You should have 10 fringe knots on each side of your mug rug.
Optional: To make your fringe pieces nice and straight, use a handheld steamer or if you don’t have that I used one swipe of a hair straightener along the fringe pieces and that did the trick!
Cut your fringe pieces so the edges are even and about 1.5 inches long. It helps to tape the fringe down before you cut.
