I can’t get enough of this Red Heart Bitty Stripes yarn! After making the adorable striped crochet baby dungarees, I still had plenty left in the Bitty Stripes skein so I decided to make a matching blanket!
The moss stitch (aka linen stitch) looked so good in the striped dungarees pattern. I loved the way the color of the Bitty Stripes yarn popped between the eggshell white. I knew I had to use the same stitch to create the striping on the blanket.
The moss stitch is very simple and easy for beginners.
You might also see it referred to as the linen stitch. It’s made up of a single crochet + chain 1 where the single crochets are worked into the chain-one spaces created by the previous row, rather than into the loops of the stitches themselves.
Foundation: Chain in multiples of two plus one.
I am starting with a chain of 81. This is baby blanket size (it will be 24 inches wide after I add a border) so feel free to make it wider and longer.
Materials:
– Red Heart Bitty Stripes Yarn in any color. Only one skein needed! I am using color Pink Lemonade.

– Red Heart with Love Yarn in color Eggshell White. Only one skein needed.
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle
Moss Stitch Striped Blanket Pattern:
starting with eggshell white yarn
Chain 81, SC in second chain from hook + chain 1, skip a chain, SC + chain 1 in next chain, repeat all the way down chain until you get to the last two stitch, SC in last two, chain 1, turn
Row 2: SC + chain 1 in first stitch, SC + chain next chain space, SC + chain 1 in all the chain spaces from previous row, end with a SC in the last chain space and a SC in the last stitch,
join in Bitty Stripes Yarn, do not fasten off eggshell white, chain 1, turn
Row 3: SC + chain 1 in first stitch, SC + chain next chain space, SC + chain 1 in all the chain spaces from previous row, end with a SC in the last chain space and a SC in the last stitch, chain 1, turn
Row 4: SC + chain 1 in first stitch, SC + chain next chain space, SC + chain 1 in all the chain spaces from previous row, end with a SC in the last chain space and a SC in the last stitch,
join back in Eggshell white yarn (carry up from previous row) do not fasten off Bitty Stripes, chain 1, turn
REPEAT ROWS 2-4 UNTIL BLANKET IS DESIRED LENGTH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Border: I plan to SC around the all the edges about 4 times to make a simple border. Make sure you make a SC + chain 2 + SC in each corner as you go.

Julian’s blanket has a starting chain of 101 and Gigi’s blanket has starting chain of 81. You will not need more than one skein of Bitty Stripes yarn for either blanket!
Blue Blanket: Measures about 33 x 26 inches and is 112 rows tall with a single crochet border of 5 rounds.
Pink Blanket: Measures about 30 x 24 inches and is 96 rows tall with a single crochet border of 5 rounds.
