Easy Crochet Angel Ornament

Materials:

• Size H (5 mm) crochet hook
• Size F (3.75 mm) crochet hook (for threading bead)

• Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Easy Angel Ornament Pattern

First Circle (Wings):
Magic Ring, chain 2, and make 12 DC in ring. Join to first DC, chain 2. (12 DC)
Round 2: 2 DC in each stitch around. Join, chain 2. (24 DC)
Round 3: 2 DC in first stitch, DC in next. Repeat around. Join. (36 DC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Second Circle (Body):
Magic Ring, chain 2, and make 12 DC in ring. Join to first DC, chain 2. (12 DC)
Round 2: 2 DC in each stitch around. Join, chain 2. (24 DC)
Round 3: 2 DC in first stitch, DC in next. Repeat around. Join. (36 DC)
Chain 20 and slip stitch back into the same stitch to create a hanging loop.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Assembly

1. Using a size F hook, insert the hook through the hole of the wooden bead and pull the chain loop through. The bead should fit snugly on top.
2. Fold the first circle in half and glue the edges together — this forms the wings.
3. Fold the second circle inward on both sides (like wrapping a cozy little bundle) with the loop extending upward. Hot glue the folds down to form the angel’s body.
   Tip: When folding your circles, try to keep the back of your stitches on the inside of the fold so the front (prettier) side faces outward. It’s a small detail, but it gives the angel a nice polished look.
4. Glue the half circle (wings) behind the body.

And just like that, your sweet angel is ready to hang!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can you sew the circles instead of using hot glue?
Absolutely! I normally don’t use hot glue with crochet projects, but for this ornament it makes the assembly super quick and helps the angel hold its shape really well, especially for gifting, craft fairs, or if little hands will be touching the tree.

But if you prefer a more traditional method, you can definitely sew the folds together instead. Just use a long strand of matching yarn and a tapestry needle, and stitch the folded edges in place. It works beautifully either way. The glue just makes it more of a “simple craft” style project with fast results.

About the Wooden Face Beads
A few people have asked if I hand-painted the little faces — I didn’t! The wooden beads I used come with the smile already painted on, which gives the angel instant personality (and saves so much time!). I’ve linked the exact beads in the post, but you can absolutely use plain wooden beads if you prefer a simpler look or want to paint your own expressions. Both options work beautifully!

Do I have to use a wooden bead for the head?
Nope! The wooden face bead is just one cute option. Other ideas that work well include:
Large button (for a more rustic / farmhouse look)
Anything small and round that sits nicely on top of the folded circle will work!
Plain wooden bead (unpainted)
Pom-pom (white, cream, or gold)
Small felted wool ball
Crocheted circle (a simple amigurumi-style head)

What size is the bead you used?
The bead in my photos has a 4.5 mm hole and is approximately 20–22 mm across (roughly ¾ inch).
But any bead in that size range will work — just make sure your chain loop can pull through the opening.

What weight/thickness is the yarn?
Red Heart With Love Better Half is a medium (4) worsted weight yarn.
It’s a cotton/acrylic blend that gives the ornament a soft but sturdy feel.
