Spring crochet is officially underway over here and I couldn’t resist starting with something small, colorful, and completely adorable. Meet the Bunny Buddy Keychains!
These little cuties are quick to make, perfect for using Red Heart mini skeins, and make the sweetest backpack charms, purse accessories, or Easter basket tuck-ins. I love projects like this that work up fast and instantly make you smile.
And let’s be honest… once you make one Bunny Buddy, it’s hard to stop.
I made mine using the Red Heart Super Saver Mega Craft Kit, which is packed with colorful mini skeins. This project barely uses any yarn, so it’s ideal for those smaller balls.
You can mix and match colors for endless combinations:
- Pastels for spring
- Brights for kids’ backpacks
- School colors
- Even neutrals for a more modern look
These are small enough that you probably already have everything you need on hand.

These Bunny Buddies are small, lightweight, and totally giftable. I can see these being a big hit at spring markets or added to Easter baskets as a handmade surprise. And the mini skeins are so easy to pack in your purse for an on-the-go project.
Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Mini Skeins. Any color you’d like!

– Size H Crochet Hook
– Poly-fil Fiber Stuffing
– Tapestry Needle

– Pink noses >>> shop them HERE on Amazon <<< (affiliate link)
– Hot Glue (used to attach the nose and further secure the safety eyes)
Bunny Buddy Keychain Pattern:
Head:
magic ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1 (10 SC)
Round 2: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1 (15 SC)
Round 3: 2 SC in first, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 4: 2 SC in first, SC in next 3, repeat around, join, chain 1 (25 SC)
Round 5-7: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (25 SC)
Round 8: SC Decrease, SC in next 3, repeat around, join, chain 1
stuff with polyfil and add safety eyes and nose
alternatively you could stitch on a face with yarn and tapestry needle
Round 9: SC Decrease, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 10: SC Decrease, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 11: SC Decrease until closed.
Fasten off leaving long tail.
Use the long tail from closing the head to attach the keyring hardware. Thread the tail onto your yarn needle and stitch securely around the small chain or loop of the keyring, anchoring it firmly to the top center of the head.
Ears (make 2):
magic ring, chain 1 and make 4 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1 (6 SC)
Round 3: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (6 SC)
Round 4: 2 SC in first, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1 (8 SC)
Round 5-6: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (8 SC)
Round 7: SC Decrease, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 8: SC in each stitch around, join, fasten off leaving long tail.
Do not stuff.
Position the ears on either side of the hardware and stitch them in place. This helps frame the keyring and keeps everything centered and secure.
Fasten off, weave in any remaining ends, and your Bunny Buddy is ready to clip onto a backpack or bag!
