I’m Starstruck! Meet Red Heart All-in-One Star Gaze Yarn

I am absolutely giddy about this new addition to the Red Heart All in One family! Meet Red Heart All in One Star Gaze. A brand-new color-changing yarn that creates the sweetest star granny squares, with the yarn doing all the color work for you!

I was already a big fan of the original Red Heart All in One Granny Square, Petite and Grande versions, Flower Power, Sweet Hearts and Quilt Motifs, but I think I might be starstruck by this one.

The magic is in the color sequencing. Instead of stopping, cutting your yarn and joining a new color for each section of the motif, you simply keep stitching as the colors change. Each ball is designed to make 14 identical 6-inch star granny square motifs.

And can we talk about that STAR?! I love watching the five points take shape. I had to stop and take pictures as I worked my first one because it was so fun watching that little star turn into a complete granny square.

Red Heart All in One Star Gaze Yarn Details

Star Gaze is a #4 worsted weight, 100% acrylic yarn. Each 7.9 oz/225 g ball contains 383 yards/351 meters of yarn. Yarnspirations recommends a 5.5 mm (US I-9) crochet hook for gauge, although of course you’ll want to follow the hook size listed for the specific Star Gaze pattern you’re making. The yarn is also machine washable and tumble dryable on low.

But here’s the part that makes this yarn so much fun: 1 ball = 14 matching 6-inch star granny squares!

You stitch continuously through the color changes, which means no separate balls of yarn for the different colors and, most importantly, far fewer ends to weave in!

Seven Star Gaze Colorways

There are currently seven color combinations, and even the names are adorable:

Gold Star • Starry Night • Polaris • Red Giant • Pulsar • Stellar • Solar

I’m starting with Polaris, which has that bright orange star surrounded by light blue and deep blue. It’s giving under the sea starfish vibes!

How Does Star Gaze Work?

If you’ve used one of the Red Heart All in One yarns before, you’ll recognize the concept. The yarn has been specially color-sequenced so that when you follow the Star Gaze pattern, the color changes line up with the different sections of your motif.

Start with the first color and crochet your star. Keep going and the next color becomes the background around the star. Then the final color completes the granny square.

No color switching. No juggling three different balls of yarn. Just keep on stitchin’!
