You got a sneak peek of these Crochet Puffy Hearts in my yarn wrapped LOVE letters post and now I am going to show you how to make them! Much easier than you might think! The hearts are actually worked in rows and then once you have two of them made, you stitch them together with SC stitches, stuffing with poly-fil before you close.
Materials:
– Bernat Super Value Yarn. I used colors Magenta, Dark Mauve, Baby Pink, Winter White and Lavendar. Shop all colors at Yarnspirations.com.
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Poly-fil Fiber Stuffing
– Tapestry Needle
Finished Size: 3×2 inches
Puffy Hearts Pattern:
Make two in same color
Chain 7, SC in 2nd chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, ch 1, turn (6 SC)
Row 2-3: SC in each stitch, ch 1, turn (6 SC)
Row 4: SC in first 3 stitches, ch 1, turn (3 SC)
Row 5-7: SC in each stitch across, ch1, turn (3 SC)
When you get to the last row, continue to SC around entire heart. When you get to bottom stitch (the one with the your slip knot) SC + Chain 1 + SC all in one stitch. Then when you get to the top “v” indent, slip stitch (instead of SC). Join, fasten off and weave in ends.
Take 2 of the same color heart and place one on top of the other. SC the edges together, when you get to the bottom make a SC + chain 1 + SC all in one stitch. Continue to SC around and when you get to the top indent of the heart, slip stitch instead of SC. Be sure to stuff with polyfil before closing!
Keep your eye on Yarnspirations.com to see what I did with these Puffy Hearts! One of my projects will be featured on their website soon 🙂 You can follow Yarnspirations on Facebook and Instagram.

Would using a bigger hook make these bigger?
Amaliya says
Hi! I think using a bigger yearn will, but not a bigger hook!

I don’t understand the sc+chain1+sc all in one stitch. This isn’t working for me.
Thanks
Chris
Maggie says
What part is giving you trouble? She wants you to put a sc, then make a chain and the put another sc in the same stitch ( the bottom point of the heart). Like a V stitch, but with sc instead of dc.

Cute! Thank you for pattern.

This absolutely didn’t look anything whatsoever like a heart for me. A video tutorial would really be helpful for beginners.

I really appreciate the “Puffy Hearts” pattern. Thank you for sharing it. I usually put the picture of the pattern with the written instructions so I can see if I’m crocheting the pattern correctly, however, you site does not allow me to copy a picture. I keep getting a message “Sorry, the parameters you provided were not valid.” Did you intend to do this? Thank you.

Thank you for all those lovely patterns, Sarah. I love this little heart! I often use it to complement children toys I make.
I recently published a French translation on my blog here/Modèle disponible en français ici : https://www.cotcotcrochete.com/2019/02/01/coeur-rembourre-au-crochet/

I like these hearts. Vert cute! The pattern is very simple and they don’t take very long to make. I think they are great.
Heather says
Will you consider a video tutorial? I can’t seem to get the heart right.
Rebecca Rise says
My heart is lop -sided It looks better when I only do row 5-6, and I don’t do row 7. Is that a misprint?
Pat says
I think that once you go round the whole heart with the sc when you get to the top v you slip stitch from here on until you get back to the start. I actually didn’t break the yarn when I made the second heart and started joining the two from that point. Hope that helps.
K. says
I like the idea of not breaking the yarn when making the 2nd heart. My trouble is when I go to do the SC all the way around on the first, I’m not ending at the V, so there’s one inside side of the heart that I can’t figure out how to do the SC on it?
Natalie Clausen says
Yes. This is the same for me, and I was hoping there was a fix in the comments. Sarah, can you help a girl out?
Sandra Favre-Byles says

I am really struggling to make this heart correctly, and I desperately want to make some to leave with my baby and others who were born via miscarriage/stillbirth.
Is there a video tutorial possibly for this? I’ve searched the internet but can’t find anything. I can’t work out that the stitches in brackets mean at the end of each line and also when I try to SC around the entire heart until I get to the bottom stitch with my slipknot (it’s at the bottom of my heart but in the pictures the slipknot is at the top left of the heart. I can’t work out if this means I’m doing something wrong).
I’d be forever grateful for some help please.

This pattern does not work as written. The pictures do not match up with the written pattern and I end up with a mess
Amanda says
This pattern is not right. I’ve tried it multiple times, following exactly. It has too many rows in the 3 st side. Even taking it out, it looks terrible. Hard pass on this pattern.
Jen says
I’m a beginner so I’m probably missing something, but my hearts came out lopsided. Also one of the photos appears to have the yarn end on the side of the heart, but mine was on the bottom. I tried a few times and still didn’t get it right. I may try again.

This is adorable! I just completed a pink, grey and white baby blanket five nights at freddy’s. I’m wrapping it with a small pink bunny on the package who will now be holding one of these sweet hearts.
