Crochet Reindeer Pouch

November 19, 2014

Sometimes you just need to go back to the basics. This Crochet Reindeer Pouch pattern was inspired by my very first written pattern The Crochet Clutch. So simple and yet there are so many possibilities for a piece like this! I did alter the sizing of the original pattern slightly and made a triangular flap. Perfect for holding a gift card, candy, lip gloss, jewelry, or anything other stocking stuffer type items you want to gift for the holidays. Or use it to hold all of your little must-haves that usually get lost in your purse: keys, coins, tissues, etc. I am sure you will find the perfect use for it this holiday season! PS – wouldn’t this make a cute fox as well?

Materials:
– Worsted Weight Yarn. I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in Honey, Brown, and White
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Red Button
– Two small black buttons
– Tapestry needle

Abbreviations:
SC = Single Crochet
DC = Double Crochet
TC =Triple Crochet
SC Decrease = Single Crochet Decrease

Finished pouch measures approx. 6 x 4 inches.

Reindeer Pouch Pattern
Chain 21, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, chain 1, turn
Row 2-28: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn
Row 29: SC Decrease, SC in next 16, SC decrease over last two, chain 1, turn
Row 30: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (18 SC)
Row 31: SC Decrease, SC in next 14, SC Decrease over last two, chain 1, turn
Row 32: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (16 SC)
Row 33: SC Decrease, SC in next 12, SC Decrease over last two, chain 1, turn
Row 34: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (14 SC)
Row 35: SC Decrease, SC in next 10, SC decrease over last two, chain 1, turn
Row 36: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (12 SC)
Row 37: SC Decrease, SC in next 8, SC Decrease over last two, chain 1, turn
Row 38: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (10 SC)
Row 39: SC Decrease, SC in next 6, SC Decrease over last two, chain 1, turn
Row 40: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (8 SC)
Row 41: SC Decrease, SC in next 4, SC Decrease over last two, chain 1, turn
Row 42: SC Decrease, DC in next two, SC Decrease over last two (Make those DC’s into TC’s if you are using a large button nose).
Continue to slip stitch around entire edge. When you get back to the start of row 42, fasten off and weave in ends.

Now you have a long crocheted strip. Fold the bottom up so it sits right under the triangle flap. Then you will want to sew together the sides with a long piece of yarn and a tapestry needle.

Sorry for the awful pictures, I was crocheting this at a bar 🙂 I explain in THIS Instagram post!

    This is perfect for my students. I am going to make each one of them the pouch and they can put their Magic Reindeer Food Bag in it. http://christmas.organizedhome.com/crafts/christmas/magic-reindeer-foodMagic Reindeer Food Poem
    Be sure to take this magic food and sprinkle on the lawn,
    On Christmas, Santa's reindeer travel miles before the dawn.
    The smell of oats and glitter path will guide them on their way
    And you'll wake up to Santa's gifts next morn on Christmas Day!
