Bernat Blanket Crochet Mittens

December 10, 2017

So remember the Bernat Blanket Yarn Santa Hat that I made a few weeks ago? It was a fun and super quick pattern out of Yarnspirations Dear Santa Gift Guide > See pattern post HERE. Anyway, I had a bit of red and white yarn left over and thought, how about matching mittens!! So quick to work up. I actually completed both mittens in about 30 minutes. They are child size… they fit my 4 year old and 6 year old. But you can make them bigger by adding in another increase round!

Materials:
– Bernat Blanket Yarn in Red and White. Shop colors on Yarnspirations.com.
– Size K crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle

Note: This pattern has been re-purposed from my Hudson Mitten pattern which you might like as well! Find the Hudson Mitten Pattern and photo tutorial HERE.

Mittens (make 2):
Toddler Size:
Magic Ring, chain 2 and make 10 DC in ring, join, chain 2
Round 2: 2 DC in first, DC in next, repeat around, join, chain 2 (15 DC)
Round 3: DC in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (15 DC)
Round 4: DC in first 6 stitches, chain 3 and skip 3 stitches, DC in last 6 stitches, join, chain 2
Round 5: DC in each stitch around (including 3 DC in the chain 3 space),
Join in white yarn
Round 6: chain 1 and make SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (15 SC)
Round 7-9: Front Post SC (FPSC) in first stitch, Back Post SC (BPSC) in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
Thumb:
With Red
Magic Ring, chain 2 and make 6 DC in ring, join, chain 2
Round 2: DC in each stitch around, fasten off leaving long tail.
Sew thumb into hole on mitten created by the chain 3 space.

Need larger mittens? Easy-peasy! Increase the pattern after round 3. So the next Row would be 2 DC in first, DC in next the next 2, repeat around for a total of 20 DC. Even bigger?! The round after that would look like this: 2 DC in first, DC in next 3 (25 DC). Crochet in each stitch around until the mitten is the length you want. Remember to chain 3 and skip 3 at about round 5 to make your thumb hole.
