
This tiny tree nut is the perfect addition to my Fall themed crochet squares! The Acorn is a simple circle to a square crochet pattern with just a few tweaks to give it’s shape and then an easy round of double crochets to make the acorn top.
Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Cornmeal (acorn), Bernat Super Value in Topaz (acorn top), and Bernat Super Value in Rouge (background)

– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle
Acorn Granny Square Pattern:
starting with cornmeal yarn
Magic Ring, chain 2 and make 16 DC in ring, join to first DC, chain 2
Round 2: 2 DC in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (32 DC)
Round 3: 2 DC in first stitch, DC in next, repeat around,
join in rouge colored yarn, chain 1
Round 4: SC in first 2 stitches, HDC, DC, 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in next, DC, HDC, SC in next 7, HDC DC, 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in next, DC, HDC, SC in next 2, skip 3 DC, SC in next 2 (this is what makes the little acorn point), HDC, DC, 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in next, DC, HDC, SC in next 7, HDC DC, 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in next, SC in last 5, join, chain 2
Round 5-6: DC in each stitch around making 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in each corner, NOTE: When you get to the part in Round 5 where you skipped 3 stitches, you will want to make 3 DC over the skipped part.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Optional: the little 3 DC stitches that you skipped will be hanging over the background color and can be stitched down as you weave in ends.

Acorn Top:
with topaz yarn
Chain 16, DC in 3rd chain from hook and rest of the way down chain, now working on other side of chain, SC, HDC, DC in next 4, 2 DC in next, chain 4 + SC in 3rd chain from hook + next chain, 2 DC in next, DC in next 4, HDC, SC, slip stitch to join and fasten off leaving long tail.
