I made this crochet sunflower square as a part of my Fall crochet square series but this one would be fun for many seasons and occasions! I putting 4 of these Fall themed crochet granny squares together to make a throw pillow. Even though I am in Arizona and it’s still 100 degrees out, I am feeling those Autumn vibes and I’m ready to bring out my Fall decor!
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in colors Country Blue (background), Saffron yellow (petals), and Cafe Latte (center). Shop these colors on Yarnspirations.com
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle
Sunflower Granny Square Pattern:
starting with cafe latte yarn
Magic Ring, chain 2 and make 16 DC in ring, join to first DC, chain 2
Round 2: 2 DC in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (32 DC)
Round 3: 2 DC in first stitch, DC in next, repeat around,
join in Country Blue yarn, chain 1
Round 4: IN BACK LOOPS ONLY (we will use the front loops later) SC in first 2 stitches, HDC, DC, 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in next, DC, HDC, SC in next 7, HDC DC, 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in next, DC, HDC, SC in next 7, HDC DC, 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in next, DC, HDC, SC in next 7, HDC DC, 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in next, SC in last 5, join, chain 2
Round 5-6: DC in each stitch around making 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in each corner
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Now let’s make the petals:
GO BACK TO ROUND 4 AND WORK IN THE FRONT LOOPS ONLY.
Join in Saffron yellow yarn and *chain 4, skip 2 stitches, join with slip stitch, repeat from * around.
Round 2 of petals: Working in first chain space, SC + HDC + 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC + HDC + SC + Slip stitch to join all in same chain space. Reach over to the next chain space and repeat. Makes 16 petals.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
