Crochet Snoopy Doghouse Applique

So many of you liked The Great Pumpkin Pocket Pillow and requested a Christmas version! I love how one project is progressing into another. Especially since there is a “Merry Christmas Charlie Brown” Board Book that matches The Great Pumpkin Board Book! Both are available HERE on Amazon as well as a Thanksgiving themed book as well. Such a great series!

I don’t have the Charlie Brown Christmas Crochet Pocket Pillow completed but I wanted to give you the pattern for Snoopy’s Doghouse so you could get started and incorporate it into other projects as well.

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in colors Hot Red and Black
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle

Snoopy Doghouse Pattern:
Chain 13, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, chain 1, turn (12 SC)
Row 2: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next 10, 2 SC in last stitch, chain 1, turn (14 SC)
Row 3-4: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (14 SC)
Row 5: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next 12, 2 SC in last stitch, chain 1, turn (16 SC)
Row 6-8: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (16 SC)
Row 9: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next 14, 2 SC in last stitch, chain 1, turn (18 SC)
Row 10-12: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (16 SC)
Fasten off after row 12
Row 13: Turn dog house top upside down and skip the first 3 stitches, join in red yarn to 4 stitch in, chain 1 and make a SC in the next 12 stitches leaving the last 3 stitches unworked, chain 1, turn
Row 14-19: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn
Fasten off after Row 19 and weave in ends.

To make the black lines:
I Surface Slip Stitched the horizontal lines on the doghouse! I love how the BACKSIDE of the surface slip stitches are skinnier and look like the lines in the cartoon drawing. So make sure you pick on side to be your front side and one side to be the back. Even though you will need to fasten off your yarn at every “line” remember that one side of the applique will be hidden so it can be sloppy and messy!

For the border:
I took my tapestry needle and a long strand of black yarn and stitched around the entire edge of the doghouse! Easy and makes it really POP!

If you want to add Christmas lights, I love this role of mini craft lights. I have used them for several projects. You can actually use a dab of hot glue to set them in place.

Background:
I am playing around with a fun idea to use spike stitches to attach the doghouse to the background and make it look like grass! Right now this is in “sample” form but if you will want to start with aqua blue yarn and crochet as many rows as you’d like with that (for the pillow you will want to start with a chain of 46 and make 34 rows) and then hold your dog house upside down in the middle of the last row of your aqua blue and single crochet with green until you get to the dog house where at this point you will make spike stitches along the bottom of the doghouse and then go back to SC stitches. Continue making the rest of your pillow panel (or granny square) with rows of SC in green.
