I know many of you are anxious to get the Under the Sea Crochet Along Blanket finished before the holidays so over the next few weeks I will try my best to post all the bonus patterns and then of course the remaining two sea creatures (shark and seal) on November 1st and December 1st!
Bonus Square #1 is a Walrus! My first attempt turned out a bit too small for my liking so I single crocheted around the edges to make it a bit bigger. Still not as big as I’d like but I think he’s super cute and I don’t want to ruin this adorable guy!

Every month in 2024 I will be crocheting an adorable ocean creatures that will fit on a crochet square that looks like a water bubble. At the end of the year I will stitch all 12 squares together to make a blanket. There will be 3 bonus patterns as well!

– Red Heart Super Saver in colors Cafe Latte, Buff Beige, White, and Black.

Walrus Head/Body:
staring with cafe latte yarn
Magic Ring, chain 2 and make 12 DC in ring, join, chain 2
Round 2: 2 DC in each stitch around, join, chain2 (24 DC)
Round 3: 2 DC in fist stitch DC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1 (36 DC)
Row 4: SC in first 10 stitches, leave remaining stitches unworked, chain 1, turn (10 SC)
Row 5: SC Decease, SC in next 7, 2 SC in last, chain 1, turn (10 SC)
Row 6: SC in first 8, SC Decrease over last two, chain 1, turn (9 SC)
Row 7: SC Decrease, SC in next 6, 2 SC in last, chain 1, turn (9 SC)
Row 8: SC in first 7, SC Decrease over last two, chain 1, turn (8 SC)
Row 9: SC Decrease, SC in next 5, 2 SC in last, chain 1, turn (8 SC)
Row 10: SC in first 6, SC Decrease over last two, chain 1, turn (7 SC)
Row 11: SC Decease, SC in last 5, chain 1, turn (6 SC)
Row 12: SC in first 4, SC Decrease over last two, chain 1, turn (5 SC)
Row 13: SC Decrease, SC in last 3, chain 1, turn (4 SC)
Row 14: SC in first 2, SC Decrease over last two, chain 1, turn (3 SC)
Row 15: SC in 3 stitches across, turn, now lest make the tail fins
chain 8, SC in second chain from hook, HDC in next, DC in next 2, TC in next 2, DC in last, join to middle stitch in row 15, chain 8 again, , SC in second chain from hook, HDC in next, DC in next 2, TC in next 2, DC in last, join to last stitch, do not fasten off
SC 10 stitches along bottom, chain 6, SC in second chain from hook, HDC in next, DC in next, TC in next, 2 TC in last, skip two spaces along bottom and join with a SC, SC in next 2 spaces along bottom, chain 8, SC in second chain from hook, HDC in next, DC Decrease along next two, TC in remaining 3 stitches, join to next space along bottom,
continue to SC around the entire walrus body making a SC + chain 1 + SC in the tips of the fins, fasten off leaving long tail.
Walrus Snout:
with buff beige
Magic Ring, chain 2 and make 5 DC + SC + 5 more DC, chain 2 and slip stitch to magic ring, pull tight, do not join, fasten off leaving long tail.
Nose:
with black yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 6 SC in ring, join, fasten off.
Walrus tusks: Make 2
with white yarn
Chain 7, SC in 3rd chain from hook, SC in next, HDC in last 3, fasten off leaving long tail.
Stitch nose on top of snout and tusks under the snout on the middle of head. Use extra strand of black yarn to stitch on two eyes on either side of the nose.
