Bells have long been part of Christmas traditions. Ringing out joy, celebration, and the welcoming of the holiday season. From church steeples to sleigh rides, the sound of a bell symbolizes hope, gathering, and cheer. So what better motif for a handmade ornament? These little crochet bells work up quickly, hang beautifully on the tree, and can be customized in endless ways.
For this design, I used the brand-new Red Heart With Love Better Half yarn in the shade Sunflower. This yarn truly lives up to its tagline: Half Cotton. Half Acrylic. All Heart. The blend creates a soft yet sturdy texture that holds its shape perfectly for ornaments like this, and the smooth finish gives each stitch a polished, refined look. (It’s the same yarn I used for my wildly popular Angel Ornament!)

I sized down to a G hook to keep the stitches nice and tight.
Finished size: approximately 5 inches wide (at the widest point) and 5 inches tall including the hanging loop.
Materials:
– Red Heart with Love Better Half in color Sunflower
– Size G Hook
– Tapestry Needle
Easy Bell Ornament Pattern:
Magic Ring, chain 2 and make 4 DC in ring, pull tight, do not join, chain 2, turn
Row 2: 2 DC in each stitch across, chain 2, turn (8 DC)
Row 3: DC in each stitch across, chain 2, turn (8 DC)
Row 4: 2 DC in first, DC in next 6, 2 DC in last, chain 2, turn (10 DC)
Row 5: DC in each stitch across, chain 2, turn (10 DC)
Row 6: 2 DC in first 3, DC in next 4, 2 DC in last 3, chain 2, turn (16 DC)
Row 7: DC in each stitch across (16 DC), chain 2 and join back down to same stitch to complete the bottom edge, continue to SC in each stitch up along right edge, make 10 chains at the top and slip stitch back to top spot to create the hanging loop, SC down along left edge and join to first stitch along bottom.
Fasten off and weave in ends. No need to SC along the bottom!
Feel free to make simple bells or stitch two pieces together and lightly stuff with poly-fil for a more dimensional ornament. You can even add a sweet red bow on top for a classic Christmas touch. More variations coming soon!
