Crochet Skis & Ski Poles Appliqué

March 9, 2026

March is such a great month to hit the slopes! Spring skiing is one of the best times to be out on the mountain. Sunshine, longer days, and softer snow that makes it perfect for cruising down the hill.

For Square #3 of our Winter Activities Crochet Along, we’re adding a pair of skis and ski poles! This fun appliqué continues our winter sports theme and adds a great layered look to the blanket.

Take a look at our first three Winter Activities squares together so far! We’ve already stitched up figure skates, hockey sticks and puck, and now skis and poles. I love seeing these winter activities come to life one square at a time.

Winter Activities Crochet-Along

Our Winter Activities Crochet-Along is a 12-month project filled with cozy winter themes, ice sports, and snowy fun. Each appliqué can stand on its own — or be turned into a full blanket as we go.

If you’re joining me for the Winter Activities Crochet-Along, you can find the links to all the patterns as they are posted mont by month as well as the Easy Double Crochet Granny Squares on the
>>> Winter Activities 2026 CAL Landing Page <<<

Video tutorial of both the Skis & Snowboard (square 4) is on my YouTube channel!

For my sample I used Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Light Blue and Black, but feel free to pick whichever colors you like for your skis. Bright colors, pastels, or even classic white skis would all look great on this square.

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Light Blue (skis) and Black (Bindings and Poles)
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle

Ski (make 2):
With Light Blue (or whichever color you’d like your skis to be)
Chain 33, 2 DC in 4th chain from hook, DC in next 4, HDC in next 5, SC in next 10, HDC in next 5, DC in next 4, 2 DC in last stitch + chain 3 and slip stitch to last stitch.
Round 2: Chain 1 and continue to single crochet evenly around the entire ski, placing 4 SC along the chains on each end.
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Ski Boot Bindings (make 2):
with black yarn
Chain 10, DC in 4th chain from hook, HDC in next, SC in next 3, HDC in next, DC + Chain 3 and slip stitch back down to the last chain. Fasten off.

Ski Pole (make 2):
with black yarn
Chain 26, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down the chain.
Slip stitch in last stitch and fasten off.

Join yarn 3 stitches down from the top, chain 8, slip stitch back into the same stitch.
This becomes your ski pole wrist loop.

With a new strand of yarn:
Chain 5, slip stitch in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down the chain. Fasten off.
This piece overlaps at the bottom of the ski pole to create the basket.

Lay the two skis diagonally across your square. You can even slightly cross them at the bottom so they look stacked together. Sew the skis onto the square using a yarn needle and matching yarn.

Next, place the black ski bindings (boot lock-ins) in the center of each ski and sew them down securely.

Position the ski poles along the left side of the square. The poles can overlap the skis near the bottom. Sew them onto the square, making sure the wrist loops are at the top and the small chain pieces form the pole baskets near the bottom.

Feel free to adjust the placement slightly until it looks just right before stitching everything in place!

These crochet skis are ready to hit the slopes! Add them to your Winter Activities CAL square, or switch up the colors and imagine them as water skis for sunny lake days instead. Either way, they bring a fun sporty touch to the blanket.

Square 1: Ice Skates
Square 2: Hockey Sticks and Puck
Square 3: Skis and Ski Poles

While chatting online, someone mentioned that Malaysian players often ignore the limits of gambling. Curious, I opened https://famousparenting.com/social-responsibility-in-gambling-an-important-topic-malaysian-players-should-understand/ to learn more. The article compared spending on gambling to buying a movie ticket—you enjoy the moment, and the money is just the price for fun. Applying these ideas helped me enjoy games without feeling guilty over losses.

Every cricket fan knows that without a clear schedule at hand, it’s simply impossible to keep track of all the IPL action. The match schedule looks fairly balanced, although some teams will have to play at a very intense pace. Your strategic IPL bet will be much more successful if you study the dates of key derbies in advance. Experience shows that the biggest upsets happen on double-header days. I recommend using this detailed schedule to always stay one step ahead of the rest!

This is such a fun addition to your Winter Activities CAL! I love how you’ve been building out this series – the progression from figure skates to hockey gear to skis really captures all aspects of winter. Spring skiing is definitely underrated, so I’m glad you’re including that in the theme.

I’ve been following along with this CAL and it’s become my go-to project for movie nights. The skis and poles turned out really well – I especially appreciate the layered look you mentioned, it gives the appliqué so much more dimension than a flat design. My only tip for others would be to use a slightly heavier weight yarn for the poles if you want them to stand up nicely when attached to the blanket.

Can’t wait to see what square #4 will be! Will it be more winter sports or are you thinking of switching to something else? Either way, I’m hooked on this project – it’s the perfect mix of challenge and enjoyment. Thanks for sharing all these great patterns!

I love how this square continues the winter sports theme, and the idea of using bright colors or pastels for the skis is such a fun customization tip! The specific instructions to chain 33 and work different stitches to shape the ski are wonderfully clear. I can’t wait to see the full 12-month blanket come together with all these activities. I’m passionate about this too! Check out my corner of the internet: Fairy Tale Princess
