Crochet Rock Star Guitar Hat Pattern

October 18, 2013

Today is a special day… It’s my 2 year Blogiversary! I’ve been blogging for exactly 2 years and I am so overwhelmed with all the support you have shown me. Some of you have been here from the beginning and some of you are new to my blog. Either way, I am grateful that you are here following along. I am in total shock at how quickly my blog and Facebook page has grown over the past couple of months. Thank you for all the positive feedback you give me when I post something new. I truly appreciate every “like,” “share,” and “comment” and I am in awe that I have almost 40,000 Facebook followers! My blog and Facebook page has grown to the point where unfortunately I am unable to respond to every e-mail, comment, or post on my wall. But I am thankful for all of you who try to help each other when someone has a question. I am amazed at this wonderful online community of crafters and crocheters. Please continue to help me by helping each other. You are always welcome to reply to others comments and post your projects or links to your shops on my Facebook wall or in the comments. This will enable me to continue working hard to post new craft tutorials, free crochet patterns, and crock pot recipe ideas.

Anyway, I guess what I am really trying to say is
THANK YOU, YOU ROCK!
Lets celebrate with a new hat pattern: a Rock Star Guitar Crochet Hat!
Well, ok, this may not be completely new… I am sure you recognize my basic hat pattern by now. But I am including a template and instructions on how to make and attach the felt guitar. And if you don’t crochet, feel free to use the guitar template below to make a rockin’ felt guitar key chain, magnet, zipper pull or ornament! If you need a more detailed tutorial on how to make the felt keychain see my Felt Forest Friends Keychains post.

With black yarn, attach yarn and SC around the entire bottom edge of the hat (including earflaps). Fasten off and weave in ends. Cut 6 long strands of black yarn, pull yarn halfway through last loop of the earflaps (you now have 12 strands). Knot, braid and knot again at the end of your braid. Trim ends of braided tails so yarn is even. Do this for both earflaps.

Felt Guitar:
Download and print out the template below. Use it as a guide to cut the big guitar shape from black felt and the smaller part of the guitar from white felt.

NOTE: You should NOT have to pay Scribd.com to access this printable. I have never paid them anything. This is a free service. If you do get a message that says you need to pay, it may just be that you need to sign in by creating a FREE account. Click on the “Log in” or “Sign Up” text in the upper right hand corner of their website.

ALSO NOTE: The guitar template can be printed in different sizes. You can adjust the scale percentage in your printer setting. This is what it looks like on my computer:

Guitar Template

When you have your pieces cut out, you will want to first sew on the smaller white guitar portion onto the black with a piece of 2-ply yarn (separate your 4-ply worsted weight yarn) and a small tapestry needle. Stitch along the edges.

Then sew the guitar onto the hat. Again use a piece of 2-ply yarn.
Finally, you will want to sew on your button going all the way through the hat and the two layers of felt.

Now Rock Out!

I'm pretty new to crochet. I followed the instructions on how to hide the seam but I can always locate it. Is it normal to still see the seam or should it be completely hidden? Also. My seam always tilts diagonal instead of being completely verticle. Not sure if that's from me being right handed

Unfortunately, joining will always create a visible seam. Sarah has a great method for creating a nice, clean seam. The only way you can get rid of the seam altogether would be to fasten off after every round and start your next round new.

I think this blog may become my regular hangout! I’m a SAHM, and suffer from isolation, mostly self-imposed. I have one friend from college, but he’s a loner like me, so we don’t confide in each other. There are a lot of folks I enjoy talking to online, but none I would feel comfortable complaining to. I have got to get out more!
