A Handmade Mother’s Day Surprise

There are certain moments as a mom that just stop you in your tracks… and this was one of them.

Zoe hasn’t shown much interest in crochet over the years despite being surrounded by yarn, hooks, and projects on a daily basis. So when she handed me this handmade embroidery piece for Mother’s Day, I was completely blown away.

She created this! A beautiful emboridered hoop featuring a yarn ball, my initials, and delicate flowers stitched all the way around. Every little detail was thoughtful and intentional. Needless to say… I teared up. I already know this piece is getting a special spot in my yarn room where I’ll see it every single day.

What surprised me even more is that this wasn’t something she’s been practicing for years. This was a skill she picked up through school and it just clicked.

She has such a natural eye for color and detail, and you can tell she genuinely enjoyed the process. There’s something so special about watching your child discover a new creative outlet and I have a feeling this is just the beginning of a new hobby for her.

Huge thank you to Zoe’s middle school art teacher. Teachers who encourage creativity and give kids the space to explore different forms of art are truly making an impact in ways that go far beyond the classroom. This experience clearly sparked something in Zoe, and I’m so grateful she had the opportunity to try something new.

It’s such a good reminder that arts education really matters. Kids need creative outlets.
