Christmas Reindeer C2C Crochet Square

The fourth and final square in my Christmas in July Corner-to-Corner Crochet Series is here, and this sweet little reindeer completes our festive cast of holiday friends!

With rosy cheeks, adorable antlers, and a sweet smile, this reindeer is ready to help Santa prepare for Christmas. I went back and forth about giving him a bright red nose, but ultimately decided on a classic brown nose. Of course, if you’d rather make Rudolph, simply swap in red yarn and he’ll be ready to lead Santa’s sleigh!

Now that all four character squares are complete, I can’t wait to show you how they’ll come together into one whimsical Christmas blanket.

What is Corner-to-Corner Crochet?

If you’re new to Corner-to-Corner (C2C) crochet, it’s a fun and highly addictive technique that turns pixel-style graphs into beautiful textured crochet pieces. You’ll start in one corner of the design (typically the lower right) and work diagonally in rows toward the opposite corner. Each pixel square represents one block made up of a chain 2 + 3 half double crochets (HDC). I prefer using HDC instead of double crochet for a slightly tighter, neater stitch. C2C is a great way to bring character designs, icons, and seasonal motifs to life!

Fun Fact: One of the best things about C2C crochet is that it’s completely reversible! The back of your project becomes a mirror image of the front, so both sides are beautiful depending on how you’d like to display your finished piece.

Three Ways to Follow the Pattern

Everyone has their favorite way to crochet, so I’ve included several options.

Use whichever method works best for you!

Materials:
– Size H crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle
– Red Heart Super Saver in:

Buff Beige (snout)
Café Latte (head)
Coffee Brown (antlers and nose)
Black (eyes and smile)
Perfect Pink (rosy cheeks)
Lush Green or Spring Green (background)

Want to make Rudolph instead? Simply swap the dark brown nose for red!
Originally, I planned to use Red Heart Super Saver in Spring Green for the background, but I discovered I didn’t have quite enough left in my yarn stash. Luckily, Bernat Super Value in Lush Green was a great substitute and gives this little reindeer a bright, festive backdrop!

Finished Size: This square measures approximately 18 x 18 inches, making it the same size as the Penguin, Snowman, and Gingerbread C2C Square and ready to join with the rest of the series.

A Fun Idea...
As I was designing this little guy, I couldn’t help but imagine an entire blanket featuring all nine of Santa’s reindeer! Just think: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen… and of course Rudolph with his famous red nose. Wouldn’t that make the cutest Christmas blanket?
