Hope you all had a “fintastic” Halloween and are ready for the 11th square in our Under the Sea CAL! The shark can be stitched up in any shade of blue or gray. I honestly couldn’t decide which one I liked best so I made a blue and gray version for the front and back of my bubble square.

Every month in 2024 I will be crocheting an adorable ocean creatures that will fit on a crochet square that looks like a water bubble. At the end of the year I will stitch all 12 squares together to make a blanket. There will be a few bonus patterns as well!

– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in colors Light Periwinkle, Dusty Gray or even Country Blue would work well, White, and a bit of Black for the face features.

Shark Applique Pattern:
Starting with blue (or gray) yarn
Chain 27, DC in 3rd chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, chain 1, turn (25 DC)
Row 2: SC Decrease, SC in next 4, HDC in next 4, DC in next 5, HDC in next 4, SC in next 4, SC decrease over last two, chain, turn
Row 3: SC decrease, SC in next 4, HDC in next 3, DC, 2 DC in next, 2 TC in next, 2 DC in next, DC, HDC in next 3, SC in next 4, SC decrease over last two, chain 1, turn
Row 4: SC decrease, SC in next 7, chain 8, SC in 3rd chain, HDC in next, DC in next 2, TC in last 2, skip 2 stitch and join to next space with a SC, SC in remaining 12 stitches, chain 8, SC in 3rd chain from hook, HDC in next, DC in remaining, join to middle of back end of shark, chain 8 again, SC in 3rd chain from hook, HDC in next, DC in remaining, join to edge of starting chain with a SC, join in white yarn, fasten off blue (or gray)
Row 5: working along bottom of starting chain, SC in next 23, chain 1, turn
Row 6: SC decrease, SC in next 19, SC decrease over last two, chain 1, turn
Row 7: SC decrease, SC in first 8, HDC in next 2, DC in next 5, HDC in next 2, SC in remaining and along the edge of the white rows, join in blue (or gray), SC along eyes of blue and along the top fin (3 SC in top of fin), SC along remaining top stitches, and slip stitch along back fins, fasten off leaving long tail.
Side fin:
Chain 8, SC in 3rd chain from hook, HDC in next, DC in remaining, chain 1 turn, SC decrease two times along edge of fin, SC in next, 3 SC in top of fin, SC along other edge, fasten odd leaving long tail.
Stitch onto side of shark where blue row starts.
