Zoo Animal Clothespin Magnets

July 12, 2013

I seem to always be in need of a strong magnet to hang up important info and my kids artwork. I was getting tired of papers falling off the fridge or my magnet board that sits above my computer desk. So I came up with some cute little zoo animal clothespin magnets! They were fun to make and I can definitely see more animals being added later 🙂 Sometimes we refer to our family as the Zimmerman Zoo so these were perfect for us!

Materials:
– Wooden clothespins
– Acrylic paint
– Hot glue gun
– Felt
– Wiggly Eyes from Craftprojectideas.com
– Magnetic tape strips from Craftporjectideas.com

Start by cutting your animal heads out of felt. I googled “zoo animal template” and came up with THIS stock photography image. I didn’t purchase it. I printed it straight from my internet browser at 200%. You can adjust the size you print at through your computers printer settings.

Once you have all your felt pieces cut out, you can hot glue them together and at small wiggly eyes.
Now paint your clothespins with acrylic paint. They don’t take very long to dry since you really only need one coat and you don’t need to paint the bottom (where the magnet will go).
Now hot glue the felt heads to the clothespins. Be sure to glue them on so the heads are facing downward. So when you clip something in them they will be facing the right way.
Now you will use this handy dandy Magnetic Tape Strips from Craftprojectideas.com. The magnets come in perfect strips that have a sticky back and will stick right to your project. Although since I know that my boys can tear apart anything, I reinforced the magnets by hot gluing the back on. You can trim them if needed as well.

That’s it! Now you have a sturdy magnet that can easily hold artwork, photos and more!

Great article! I enjoyed reading about the creative process of making children’s toys using clothespins and transforming them into various animal characters. It’s a fantastic way to encourage imaginative play and engage children in crafting activities. These zoo animal clothespin magnets sound super cute! I’m imagining my fridge looking like a mini zoo. How did your kids react when they saw them?
