It’s August and we’re headed back to school with this fun School House Square! This marks the 8th square in our House Blanket Crochet-Along, and I can already see the finish line approaching. The School House Square features 12 classroom windows and a bell tower up top, perfect for capturing the schoolhouse charm.
The highlight of this square is the bell appliqué I found! It comes from a Christmas patch set, and it worked beautifully. The colors match perfectly, and all I had to do was trim off the bow at the top to turn it into a schoolhouse bell. The best part? The back of the patch sticks right onto the crochet, making it super easy to attach. Plus, the rest of the appliqué set is adorable and would work great for all kinds of projects. While I felt comfortable sticking it directly onto the crochet C2C square, you can always choose to leave the bell off, stitch on a bell yourself, or even stitch the sticky appliqué on for extra reinforcement.

What is the House Blanket CAL?
Each month in 2025, I will be posting a House themed corner-to-corner crochet square. Each house will reflect the seasons and/or holidays! At the end of the year I will stitch all 12 of the house squares together to make a stunning blanket of happy homes.

Each square starts with a 25×25 pixel graph. I use the corner-to-corner technique to crochet the square and the finished size of the crocheted squares are approximately 17 x 17 inches.
If you are new to the Corner-to-Corner (C2C) Crochet technique, let me explain a little bit about it. You can take a pixel graph and turn it into a crocheted piece. By starting in one corner of the graph (the lower right hand is most common place to start), you will crochet diagonally in rows until you get to the other corner. One pixel square = a chain 2 + 3 HDC stitches. Please note that I am using HDC stitches for the C2C instead of DC.
