I’m really getting addicted to button art! Originally inspired by the Busted Button, I created a button owl and then for Fall/Halloween I created a button candy corn. Now that the snow has begun to fall and it’s feeling like winter, I decided to make a button penguin! I love how the penguin turned out, but I’m not so happy with how the ice berg looks. It looks as though he is standing in a puddle instead of on ice, but there is only so much I could do with the buttons I had on hand. I still think I get and A for effort.
Here is what you will need to make this cute little penguin piece:
– Buttons! I like Favorite Findings buttons. You can find them at Jo-Ann Fabrics. That is where I also found the orange triangle buttons.
– 8×8 canvas
– Snowflake buttons (optional)
– Hot glue gun
First print out a picture of a penguin that you like. I googled searched “penguin clip art” and came up with THIS PICTURE that I liked. Now print it out and use it as your template and trace it onto your canvas with a pencil.
Now using acrylic paint, paint your penguin so that if the buttons don’t quite overlap perfectly, there will be a filler color in the background.
When the paint is dry, gather your buttons and start hot-gluing! I like to roughly arrange my buttons on the canvas first because once you glue them down there is no rearranging.
