Crochet Christmas Sloth C2C Blanket

December 10, 2018

Well I guess I over-committed myself this holiday season. I had big hopes to complete this super cute Christmas Sloth C2C blanket but sadly I’ve had very little time to work on it. I am only human! The days and weeks have flown by and I am only on row 25 of this graph. But no worries! I am going to go ahead and post this pixel graph so those of you who want to get started on it can do so! I am making a goal for myself to get this done by Christmas in July. We can work on it together! Besides, I think it’s fun to work on Christmas projects all year round 🙂

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in Cool Blue (I would get 3-4 skeins)
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in Berry Red (one skein)
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in Honey brown (main body color) (2-3 skeins)
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in Oatmeal beige (face and tummy) (one skein)
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in Taupe dark brown (limb outline, branch, eyes/nose/mouth) (2 skeins) – you could also go with another shade of brown (like Topaz) for the branch!
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in White (one skein)
Shop all colors HERE on Yarnspirations.com!
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Sloth Pixel Graph

Huge thanks to Jenn from Jenn’s Creative Crochet for cleaning up the graph and transforming it into a written color change pattern! I know this helps out so many of you who don’t like counting each pixel square.

Get the Christmas Sloth Pixel Graph HERE

You can get the free downloadable PDF of the written color change pattern HERE.

She also made a cross stitch graph (you can use this for crochet as well!). Find it HERE.

You can follow Jenn’s Creative Crochet HERE on facebook and find her own pixel graph designs HERE in her Etsy shop!

I used the corner-to-corner crochet method to make this blanket. Instead of using DC stitches like a traditional C2C, I used HDC. See video below on how to corner-to-corner crochet using the Half Double Crochet.

First you will want to download the Sloth Pixel Graph above. When you are done, it will be reversible! The same image will appear on either side (the sloth will just be facing the other direction). If you aren’t familiar with the C2C technique, I have a video class available HERE for purchase that teaches you this technique! The CrochetCrowd also has a very helpful video tutorial for FREE that shows you the basic technique of corner-to-corner crochet. Check that out HERE.

You can also find a quick tutorial on how I Corner-to-Corner crochet using the HDC stitch below.

If you finish this Christmas Sloth C2C pleasure be sure and share it with me! Tag me on social media using @RepeatCrafterMe or hashtag #RepeatCrafterMe.

Happy Holidays and Happy Crocheting!

Crochet C2C Pickup Truck Tree Pillow

November 27, 2018

The holidays are in full swing and I’m sure many of you are bringing home your Christmas tree this week! Which inspired me to make this little red pickup truck tree pillow! I use the corner to corner crochet technique and my “throw pillow” turned out to be the size of a standard bed pillow but it is still super cute and functional. You can never have too many cozy christmas pillows! You could also use the graph below and crochet it using SC stitches instead of C2C for a much smaller pillow. Or it doesn’t have to be a pillow at all. I considered making it a wall hanging or even part of blanket. You could easily add a big thick border!

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value yarn in Berry Red, Lush Green, White, Gray, Black, and Brown. You only need one skein each. With just a little bit of the Gray/Black/Brown. Shop all colors HERE on Yarnspirations.com
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Pickup Truck Pixel Graph
– Pickup Truck color change pattern HERE
– Tapestry Needle
– Standard size pillow (if making into a pillow)

I used the corner-to-corner crochet method to make this blanket. Instead of using DC stitches like a traditional C2C, I used HDC. See video below on how to corner-to-corner crochet using the Half Double Crochet!

First you will want to download the Pickup Truck Tree Pixel Graph. You can do that HERE. When you are done, it will be reversible! The same image will appear on either side (the truck will just be facing the other direction). If you aren’t familiar with the C2C technique, I have a video class available HERE for purchase that teaches you this technique! The CrochetCrowd also has a very helpful video tutorial for FREE that shows you the basic technique of corner-to-corner crochet. Check that out HERE.

JUST ADDED! Jenn from Jenn’s Creative Crochet has graciously created the written color change pattern for this project! I know this helps out so many of you who don’t like counting each pixel square. You can get the free downloadable PDF of the written color change pattern HERE.

You can follow Jenn’s Creative Crochet HERE on facebook and find her own pixel graph designs HERE in her Etsy shop!

ALSO NEWLY ADDED! I forgot to post a second version of this graph! I had come up with two versions originally… one with the tree laying sideways and one with the tree standing up upright. Wanted to pass along this other graph to those that might like it better! Get the Pickup Truck Tree Graph Version #2 HERE.

If you are going to make this into a pillow you will need to make another C2C piece the same size as the pickup truck piece but in a solid color (I chose gray). You can follow the blank graph below.

No need to add borders! You will simply crochet the two pieces together! Make a SC between each “square” along the edges, chain 2, and SC in the next space. When you get to the corners you will want to make a SC in the corner. See picture below.

Insert pillow before completely closing!

Happy Holidays and Happy Crocheting!

Crochet Watermelon C2C and Yarnspirations Foodie Baby Lookbook

July 30, 2018

A few weeks ago I got a fun e-mail in my inbox from Yarnspirations featuring their new Foodie Baby Lookbook. I was so excited to see all the adorable food-inspired crochet patterns! If I had more time I would crochet all of them but the one I really loved was the How About The Apples Blanket! It a fun corner-to-corner design with red apples with one apple that has been eaten down to the core.

As I was about to get this project on my hook, I just happen scrolled through the Five A Day Knit Cardigan and noticed the pattern included 3 SUPER CUTE pixel graphs: An Avocado, Watermelon Slice, and Apple. I couldn’t resist the watermelon graph and decided to make a blanket (similar to How Bout The Apples) but with watermelon slices!

Get the Graphs HERE in the pattern for the Five A Day Knit Cardigan

I love the way these watermelon slices look when crocheted corner-to-corner! I originally crocheted the seeds as well (chain 4, slip stitch in 2nd chain from hook, SC in next, HDC + SC in last) but then I decided it was easier to just use a tapestry needle and long piece of black yarn to stitch the seeds on.

I’m using Bernat Super Value yarn in colors Natural, Lush Green, and Magenta. And of course my trusty Size H Crochet Hook (the one pictured is from Polymer Clay Shed!)

Each individual watermelon slice C2C measures approximately 10 x 11 inches. I would definitely make a bigger blanket with at least 9 slices but this one is a car seat blanket for my friends new baby! My finished blanket with only 4 watermelons and the border measures about 25 x 26 inches. One watermelon slice does intentionally have a bite out of it if you couldn’t tell 🙂

I stitched the squares together with my tapestry needle and long strand of yarn using the mattress stitch. Then I crocheted a border of SC stitches. 3 rounds of natural color, 3 rounds of magenta, one round of green, and then one more round of green using the reverse SC stitch. Always be sure to make a SC + chain 2 + SC in your corners!

I’ve already seen a few of you making other things with these cute foodie graphs like pillows! Now I’m tempted to make myself an avocado pillow!

Remember you can find these pixel graphs in the Five a Day Knit Cardigan Pattern from the Yarnspirations Foodie Baby Lookbook. I also recommend you browse this adorable free lookbook for tons of inspiration and fun food-themed patterns!

Be sure to tag me on social media using the hashtag #RepeatCrafterMe and #Yarnspirations if you make this project!

Crochet Bunny C2C Blanket

March 17, 2018

Easter is just a few weeks away but there is still plenty of time to crochet this Bunny C2C Blanket! It really only takes a few days! It also makes a perfect gift for those Spring Babies. The fun part about this blanket is that I used Bernat Pipsqueak yarn to make the ears incredibly fuzzy and soft! Typically Pipsqueak yarn can be difficult to work with because its a fur yarn which makes the stitches hard to see… but don’t fear! Corner-to-corner crochet is the a great match for this yarn! Since you are essentially crocheting over the chain from the previous rows square, there is no exact stitch that needs to be found. This yarn is such a simple element to add that gives the blanket a whole new look and feel! The rest of the blanket is made with my go-to worsted weight yarn: Bernat Super Value. Stock up on both yarns and shop all the color combos at Yarnspirations.com!

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in Lilac (2 skeins), Natural (1 skein), Soft Gray (only small ball need) and Black (only two long strands needed for eyes)
– Bernat Pipsqueak Yarn in color Tickle Me Pink (2 skeins) NOTE: I ALMOST finished the second ear with just one skein – I had six more squares to go. I do believe you could make the bunny with only one skein by crocheting the ears tighter, using a HDC stitch instead of the DC, or going down a hook size.
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle
– Bunny Pixel Graph

I used the Corner-to-Corner (C2C) method to crochet the graph. If you aren’t familiar with the C2C technique, I have a video class available HERE for purchase that teaches you this technique! This blanket is square so you don’t have to worry about increasing on one side and decrease on the other (like you would need to do in a rectangle blanket). So the square shape makes it less confusing if you are a newbie to corner-to-corner crochet. The Crochet Crowd also has a very helpful video tutorial for free that shows you the basic technique of corner-to-corner crochet. Check that out HERE.

Finished blanket size is 32 x 32 inches (including the small border)

The border:
With purple, SC between the C2C square, chain 2, SC between next square, repeat all the way around edge making a SC + chain 2 + SC in each of the four corners.
Switch to white yarn
Slip stitch to join in first chain 2 space, make 4 DC in next, slip stitch to next chain 2 space, repeat around. Join to first slip stitch, fasten off and weave in ends.

Need help figuring out how to weave in your ends? I have a tutorial for that!
>>>HOW TO WEAVE IN YOUR ENDS TUTORIAL <<<

PS – there really isn’t that many loose ends in this project! It probably took me a total of 30 minutes to weave in my ends.

Update 3/30/18
The Blue Eared Bunny is finished! And just as cute as his sister bunny 🙂

La Croix Crochet C2C Blanket

March 7, 2018

A few weeks ago I started a project just for me! I am obsessed with La Croix Sparkling Water (especially the Pamplemousse/Grapefruit flavor) and I give credit to this refreshing bubble water for helping me kick my diet coke habit which in turn helped me lose all my baby weight! You can read my Weight Watchers Success Story HERE if you are interested in seeing some fun before and after pics! So I thought the idea of crocheting a blanket, using the corner-to-corner method, with an image of a La Croix can would be a fun project 🙂

I used the pampelmousse pixel graph image that accompanies THIS cross-stitch pattern. It costs $4.50 on Etsy to purchase the graph. You can actually buy several different flavors from the La Croix line. They all come as cross-stitch patterns but you can use the pixel graph in the cross stitch pattern the same way you would use a pixel graph for a C2C project!

I used Caron Simply Soft Yarn in the most perfect colors: Grey Heather, White, Watermelon, Strawberry, Country Peach, Robins Egg OR Blue Mint (I screwed up a little and told you Blue Mint originally and then realized I was actually using Robins Egg – you could use either!!), and Royal Blue. Shop all colors HERE at Yarnspirations.com and use the coupon code RCMFBSS20 at checkout!

If you are unfamiliar with C2C, here is what you need to know:

I used the Corner-to-Corner (C2C) method to crochet the graph. If you aren’t familiar with the C2C technique, I have a video class available HERE for purchase that teaches you this technique! The Crochet Crowd also has a very helpful video tutorial for FREE that shows you the basic technique of corner-to-corner crochet. Check that out HERE.

Instead of the traditional C2C method of using DC’s and chain 3’s to make each pixel, I used HDC’s and only chained 2 (and chained 5 instead 6 on the increase stitches). This allowed me to have a smaller overall blanket and tighter stitches but you can absolutely use DC stitches if that is more comfortable for you!

The finished size of my blanket is 47 inches tall x 30 inches wide

Materials:
– Caron Simply Soft Yarn (2 skeins each color listed above).
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle
– La Croix Pixel Graph. Purchase HERE (affiliate link)

Below are some progress shots!

Ready to start the border?! I used the moss stitch (SC + Chain 1) along the edges. I have a little over 50 stitches on the short edge and 90 on the long edges. Don’t make too many stitches along the edge or else your blanket will ripple. In the corners make a SC + chain 1 two times! I have 8 rounds of white and then 2 rounds of each color in this order gray, blue, light blue, peach, strawberry, and watermelon.

Now it’s time to weave in your ends!! Don’t worry, I have a video tutorial on this HERE to clear up any confusion on how to go about this. I’m not going to lie, you will have A LOT of ends to weave in if you decide to do this project, but it was so worth it to me in the end!

CLICK HERE for the tutorial on how to weave in your ends.

Zoe snuggled up (this was before the border was added!)

Crochet Rudolph C2C Blanket

November 17, 2017

Do you recall? The most famous Reindeer of all?! Yes, it’s Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer peeking out of the corner of this cute C2C (corner-to-corner) blanket! I know we only have about a month until Christmas, but this pattern is pretty easy because there aren’t a whole lot of complicated color changes. I actually didn’t have that many ends to weave in!

The finished size is approximately 35 inches x 32 inches. This is great lapghan or childs blanket size but you could absolutely make it bigger if you wanted to by increasing the border or using DC stitches instead of the HDC stitches that I used.

Download the Rudolph Pixel Graph HERE

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value:
Lush Green (2)
Berry Red (1)
Taupe (1)
Topaz (1)
Oatmeal (1)
Small amount of Black and White for eyes
Shop colors HERE on Yarnspirations.com
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle

UPDATE TO ADD: Fellow crocheter Jennifer Burgard has graciously taken the time to write out all the color changes in an easy-to-follow PDF! Download it for free HERE.

Sample of page of 1 of the written color change pattern is below 🙂 Thanks so much Jennifer!

After you have finished the main blanket, you can choose to add a border or leave without a border as pictured above.

With green, SC between between “squares” on edge and chain two in-between. So you will SC +chain 2 + SC all the way around, making a SC +Chain 2+SC all in one stitch in each corner.

Then with green, make 2 HDC in each chain 2 space all the way around the blanket. Make 2 HDC + chain 2 + 2 HDC in each corner.

For the last round of the border, switch to red yarn and SC in each stitch around making 2 SC + Chain 2 + 2 SC in each corner. Fasten off and weave in ends!

Gingerbread Crochet Hook is from The Polymer Clay Shed. Shop the Hooks HERE.

Not a great photo (taken with my iPhone) but below you can see Zoe holding it up for size reference! She is 4 years old.

Crochet Halloween C2C Blanket

September 18, 2017

I’m back with another holiday corner-to-corner crochet blanket! This time it has a Halloween theme! How cute is this little black kitty peaking up from the bottom of the blanket?! And then an adorable spider comes down from the top to say hello! Halloween doesn’t need to be scary or creepy. I just love making cutsie creations for my seasonal decor!

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value in Lavendar (3 skeins), Black (2 skeins), Carrot (1), Yellow (1), White (1). Shop all colors at Yarnspirations.com.
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle
– Halloween Pixel Graph – download HERE

Finished Size: approximately 42 x 32 inches

I used the Corner-to-Corner (C2C) method to crochet the graph. If you aren’t familiar with the C2C technique, I have a video class available HERE for purchase that teaches you this technique! The Crochet Crowd also has a very helpful video tutorial for FREE that shows you the basic technique of corner-to-corner crochet. Check that out HERE.

VERY IMPORTANT: Instead of the traditional C2C method of using DC’s and chain 3’s to make each pixel, I used HDC’s and only chained 2 (and chained 5 instead 6 on the increase stitches). This allowed me to have tighter stitches and a smaller overall piece. You can absolutely use the traditional method of DC’s.

Download the Halloween Pixel Graph HERE and follow the rows back and forth diagonally from the right hand corner up the left corner.

The border:
Round 1: (with black) Join yarn in between any of the squares along the edge. SC in space between squares, chain 2, SC in next space between squares, repeat around entire blanket. Do not do anything special on the corners.
Round 2: Working over the chain 2 spaces.. DC + Chain 1 + DC + Chain 1, repeat in each chain 2 space around entire blanket. Don’t Do anything special in the corners.
Round 3: SC over each chain 1 space around entire blanket. Make 2 SC + chain 2 + 2 SC in each corner.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Perfect your blanket with these finishing tips and tricks!
I surface slip stitched the whiskers on the cat. This is completely optional.
Ever wonder why sometimes the squares of the same color seem disconnected on corner-to-corner projects? There is a simple answer and fix to this! See how I use my loose ends to my advantage!

Happy Halloween!

Crochet Daisy C2C Blanket with Bernat Blanket Tiny

August 12, 2017

I know many of you have been waiting for this pattern and today is the day that is available RIGHT HERE at Yarnspirations.com! The Daisy Blanket is my latest corner-to-corner design and in this version I used the super soft and tiny Bernat Blanket Tiny Yarn! It has the same soft texture as the regular Bernat Blanket yarn but not as thick and heavy! Perfect for larger graphs and light weight for baby’s first blanket. Of course you can absolutely use any yarn of your choosing and follow the same pattern and graph. Using a thicker and heavier weight yarn will adjust the final size of the blanket. This particular blanket is baby size… perfect for a car seat blanket!

GET THE FREE DAISY C2C PATTERN AND GRAPH HERE

I only needed one skein of each color in the Tiny yarn BUT I recommend that when working with C2C graphs you have multiple skeins attached at one time so you can carry your yarn up from the previous row instead of clipping it off every time you need to switch color.

The border can be continued to become as large as you’d like it!
I only have two rounds of edging but you can have many more!

Every month or two I create a crochet pattern and project to be hosted on the Yarnspirations website – like this one! They do a great job of laying it out, editing, converting the instructions and pattern into their standard format, and taking professional photos! But this all takes time. So this was the cause of the delay between my social media sneak peeks and the final pattern being posted 🙂 Thank you so much for you patience!

GET THE FREE DAISY C2C PATTERN AND GRAPH HERE

Be sure to post your version of the C2C Daisy Blanket on social media when you are finished! Tag @RepeatCrafterMe and @Yarnspirations or use the hashtags #repeatcrafterme and #yarnspirations so we can see and feature your work!

Crochet C2C Bunny Pillow Sham

April 9, 2017

BunnyPillow4

Hoppy Day! My bunny C2C project is finished and I turned it into an adorable pillow sham! Such a cute piece of decor for a kids room or for the Easter holiday. And gender neutral! I would love to see someone make a row of gray bunnies! It fits a standard size bed pillow so no need to use a bunch of fiberfil stuffing or search for a custom pillow size to make this project!

BernatBunny1

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in Mint, Baby Pink, Lilac, and Winter White. You will need 2 skeins of Mint (or whatever color you will use for the back). And 1 skein of the other colors. Shop all 73 colors of this yarn at Yarnspirations.com.
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Standard bed pillow
– Tapestry needle

First you will need to download the Bunny C2C Graph >>> Click HERE
BunnySilhouettePillow

BunnyPillow6

I used the Corner-to-Corner (C2C) method to crochet the graph. If you aren’t familiar with the C2C technique, The Crochet Crowd has a very helpful video tutorial for FREE that shows you the basic technique of corner-to-corner crochet. Check that out HERE.

VERY IMPORTANT: Instead of the traditional C2C method of using DC’s and chain 3’s to make each pixel, I used HDC’s and only chained 2 (and chained 5 instead 6 on the increase stitches). This allowed me to have a smaller overall piece. You can absolutely use the traditional method but your piece will be too large for the pillow sham.

You will want to make two rounds of SC along the edges. To do that, join yarn at any point on the edge and SC evenly around entire piece making a SC+chain 2+SC on the two pointed ends. A good way to keep your stitches even along the edge is to alternate between making 2 SC and then 3 SC along each “square.”

Make 3 large yarn pom poms and attach them to the bunny butts 🙂

BunnyPillow7

BunnyC2C_tails

After you finish the graph above you will need to make a second piece for the back in a solid color (I used Mint green). Make the same SC border along the edges.

BunnyShamBackGraph

When both pieces are done, SC them together along over the pillow. If you would rather be able to make the pillow removable, leave one button unstitched and use buttons for closer.

Crochet Purple Stripe C2C Blanket

February 7, 2017

PurpleC2C_1

Pretty Purple Stripes! I’ve been working on this blanket for awhile now. It was my back burner project that I would pick up here and there and take with me when I needed something simple and mindless to stitch. I decided it was finally time to finish this WIP (work in progress) and share with you the completed project. The best part is that you can choose any color combo for this blanket and with the repetitive rows, it’s a fairly easy one to complete! A great gift idea for all ages.

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in Damson, White,  and Lavendar. Shop all colors at Yarnspirations.com. This is a worsted weight yarn with a large selection of colors! I’ve been working on this for so long that I’m not quite sure exactly how much I used. I’m guessing 3-4 skeins of lavender and two each of dark purple and white.
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle

Finished Size: Approximately 52 inches tall x 40 inches wide. I’m a little under 5’3 and this covers my body. You can always increase in size by adding a larger border or by using thicker yarn and going up a hook size or two.

First you will need to download THE C2C GRAPH.
PurpleC2C_Graph

If you aren’t familiar with the C2C technique, I have a video class available HERE for purchase that teaches you this technique! The Crochet Crowd also has a very helpful video tutorial for FREE that shows you the basic technique of corner-to-corner crochet. Check that out HERE.

PurpleC2C_6

PurpleC2C

The Border:
Round 1: With lavender, SC between any two “squares” on your border, chain 2, SC between the next two squares, chain 2, repeat around. Be sure to make a SC + chain 2 + SC in each corner.
Round 2: Continuing with lavender, make 3 SC over first chain 2 space, 2 SC over next chain 2 space, repeat around. Be sure to make a SC + chain 2 + SC in each corner.
Round 3-4: SC in each stitch around with lavender yarn. Be sure to make a SC + chain 2 + SC in each corner.
Round 5: With dark purple, crab stitch (also called a reverse SC) around entire edge. Make a crab stitch + chain 2 + crab stitch in each corner.

Crochet C2C Valentine’s Heart Table Runner

January 21, 2017

ValentineRunner5

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner you might be looking for some cute but simple decor ideas. Look no further! Using the corner-to-corner crochet method, you can whip up a Valentine’s Heart Table Runner in no time! Plus you can make it as long or short as you’d like by adding or leaving off one or more hearts to the design. My runner is 64 inches long and 12 inches wide (not including the tassels). Whether you are planning a romantic dinner or take-out with the kids, this decor idea will brighten your table and put you in a festive mood!

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in Berry, Baby Pink, and Winter White. You only need 1 skein of each. Shop these colors and more at Yarnspirations.com.
– Size H crochet hook
– Tapestry Needle

If you aren’t familiar with the C2C technique, I have a video class available HERE for purchase that teaches you this technique! The Crochet Crowd also has a very helpful video tutorial for FREE that shows you the basic technique of corner-to-corner crochet. Check that out HERE.

First you will want to download the Valentine’s Heart Runner Pixel Graph.
You can do that HERE.
ValentinesRunner_C2Cgraph_1
Next you will want to download the pixel graph with the end pieces of Valentine’s Heart Runner. You can do that HERE. You will need to crochet two of these pieces.
ValentineRunner_C2CGraph2
UPDATE! Thanks to Keilanna Hammond for taking the time to create a written pattern from the table runner graph! She typed out all the instructions for each row to make it easier for some of you, especially since some of you are printing your graph in gray scale. GET THE WRITTEN PATTERN HERE.

ValentineC2C

Once you have crocheted your two end pieces, you will want to transform the edge with ridges to a smooth edge so you can sew it onto either end of your heart runner.

ValentineRunner9

To smooth the ridges:

Slip stitch across first 3 stitches and slip stitch over the chain 3 which brings you to the first “dip,” HDC in first stitch in the dip, SC in next, slip stitch in next, Slip Stitch over the chain 3. Now you are at the next dip. HDC, SC, slip stitch, slip stitch over chain 3. Repeat all the way down.
ValentineRunner10

Now you are ready to sew the triangle ends on!

ValentineRunner11

Weave long strand and tapestry needle back and forth under the SC stitches on both sides.

ValentineRunner12

ValentineRunner13

ValentineRunner15

Now join red yarn at any point on the edge and SC evenly around entire piece making a SC+chain 2+SC on the two pointed ends. A good way to keep your stitches even along the edge is to alternate between making 2 SC and then 3 SC along each “square.” You will want to make two rounds of SC along the edges.

ValentineRunner14

Now switch to white yarn and make one last round of SC stitches around the entire edge. Remember to make a SC+chain 2+SC on the two pointed ends.
Add a little frill to the last round of your border! SC, chain 4, skip one stitch, SC to next, chain 4, skip one stitch, SC to next, repeat around.
Add a yarn tassel to each end to complete the piece!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Polar Bear Cub Crochet C2C Blanket

January 2, 2017

polarbear2

Happy New Year! 2017 is going to be a great year with some amazing new projects and tons of FREE crochet patterns like this one that will be available right here on my blog! I will also be collaborating with Yarnspirations this year and you will find several of my patterns on their site (also free!) throughout the year so be sure to follow along!

My first pattern of the year is this cute little Polar Bear Cub Crochet C2C Blanket! Measuring 32×32 inches it is the perfect size baby blanket and a fun winter-themed project. Like most crochet blankets, you can always make them bigger by continuing to add to the border! You could also make multiple C2C squares and stitch them together like I did with my Christmas Character Afghan.

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in Clay, Winter White, Baby Pink, Black and Aqua.  See all the colors at Yarnspirations.com!
– Size H crochet Hook
– Tapestry needle

Finished size: 32 x 32 inch square

First you will want to download the Polar Bear Cub Pixel Graph. You can do that HERE. When you are done, it will be reversible! The same image will appear on either side. If you aren’t familiar with the C2C technique, I have a video class available HERE for purchase that teaches you this technique! The Crochet Crowd also has a very helpful video tutorial for FREE that shows you the basic technique of corner-to-corner crochet. Check that out HERE.

polarbearc2cgraph_final2

img_3134

As you can see, you will have some ends to weave in, but overall this is a fairly quick project! See how I weave in my ends in C2C projects HERE.

polarbear5

polarbear1

For the border I made two rounds of SC along all edges (SC + chain 2 + SC in the corners) and then I did the third round of the border in reverse SC stitches (also called the crab stitch)

Crochet C2C Gingerbread House Advent Calendar

November 7, 2016

c2cadvent2

Christmas crocheting is now in full swing! And this Crochet C2C Gingerbread House Advent Calendar is hot off my hook! First I created an extra tall and long gingerbread house using the corner-to-corner crochet technique. Then I crocheted little C2C pockets that I stitched on the gingerbread house. It’s countdown to Christmas from the 1st of December all the way down to Christmas Eve! Stuff them with  little treats, candy canes, small toys, or a little note. Make sure you crochet a Gingerbread Man to move pockets so you know what day you are on!

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in Topaz (brown) – you will need 2 skeins, Berry (red), Fern, Bright yellow, Mulberry (purple), and White. See all the colors at Yarnspirations.com!
– Size H crochet Hook
– Tapestry needle
– 20 inch wooden dowel rod (about 5/16 inch thick)
– Felt number stickers

Finished size: 21 inches wide x 45 inches tall

First you will want to download the Gingerbread Pixel Graph. You can do that HERE. Originally I designed it so that there was a peppermint window but you will actually need this space for a pocket. Also note that when you are done, the gingerbread C2C is reversible so whatever side you feel looks better, use that side for your pockets. If you aren’t familiar with the C2C technique, I have a video class available HERE for purchase that teaches you this technique! The Crochet Crowd also has a very helpful video tutorial for FREE that shows you the basic technique of corner-to-corner crochet. Check that out HERE.

gingerbreadc2cadvent2

Then you will make 23 (or 24) C2C pockets in brown. These will be 3 x 3 squares. You don’t really need a graph for this but I am including one below 🙂 Then you will make the last pocket in 4 x 4 size in green to go over the door.

3by3c2c 4by4c2c

Once you have crocheted the 3 x 3 squares, you will want to SC around three of the edges in white.

c2cadvent11

Remember that you will want to ignore my peppermint window (it will also save you a lot of ends to weave in!) I’m not going to lie, the “gumdrop” roof does require a lot of color changes and you will have some ends to weave in. Fortunately, the bulk of the project is brown so no ends to weave in there!

c2cadvent9

Line up your pockets and stitch them on!

c2cadvent10

Stick your felt number stickers on to the pockets. I used the Creatology brand from Michaels and had to buy 4 packets. You might be able to find other felt number stickers or you can cut your own out of felt.. or use puffy paint or crochet on your numbers! Lots of options and I can’t wait to see what you come up with  🙂

creatologystickers

Now to add a candy cane crochet border! First I single crocheted around the entire piece with one round of red and then a second round SC in green. Make a SC + chain 2 + SC in the corners. After that you will want to attach your white yarn (in any spot), make a SC and chain 4, then leave it and insert your hook into the next stitch and with red, make a SC and chain 4. Now insert your hook back in the white chain 4 and join to the next stitch (overlapping the red) with a SC and chain 4. Repeat while alternating colors.

You can see a video of how to do this HERE on my Facebook page or HERE on my Instagram page.

c2cadvent7

Do the same for the corners, just make 4 chain stitches in the corners.

c2cadvent4

I used a wooden dowel rod sewn onto the back top of the project to support it. I crocheted  a chain of 40 (with 2 more SC rows) to create a strip to attach to the rod so you can hang it. And then 3 separate strips with a starting chain of 20 and an additional 3 rows of SC stitches. These you will sew over the dowel rod and onto the top back right under the border.

c2cadvent12

c2cadvent13

You can find the Gingerbread Man pattern HERE!

c2cadvent3

Hang on the wall using a command hook and you’re ready for your countdown to Christmas!!

Crochet C2C Bernat Blanket Bear

May 18, 2016

BernatBear3

Looking for a quick, easy, and gender neutral baby blanket?! This one is going to be your new go-to pattern! I’ve combined my two newest obsessions: Bernat Blanket Yarn and C2C (corner-to-corner) to create this extra soft and snuggly Teddy Bear Blanket! If you aren’t familiar with Bernat Blanket Yarn, it is a bulky weight, soft and cozy chenille-style yarn that is great for plush blankets, crochet baskets, and home decor accessories. This chunky yarn stitches up quickly so it’s the perfect choice for this project. Even with a small(ish) pixel graph like this one, you can create a nice size blanket! Plus it’s machine washable and dryable for easy care.

If you haven’t tried the C2C (corner-to-corner) technique there are a couple of resources for you to check out. I have created several C2C projects like THIS one and THIS one that you can refer to, but you should definitely take a look at  THIS VIDEO DEMONSTRATION by The Crochet Crowd which is a good starting point to learn how to crochet in the corner-to-corner method.

NEW!! The Crochet Crowd has made video tutorial for this Bernat Blanket Bear C2C project! See their step-by-step video tutorial HERE.

Starbucks Spring Beverages and Crochet C2C Coffee Cup Granny Square

May 15, 2016

CoffeeGranny4

Spring is the perfect season to enjoy a little iced coffee or tea and crochet outside! At least once I week I like to take an hour to myself to sit on the patio and relax with my hook, yarn, and a cup of Starbucks® Black Iced Coffee. But if tea is more your thing, Starbucks® TAZO series has a plethora of flavors… their Chai Tea being one of my favorites 🙂 This weekend I worked up a C2C coffee cup granny square that is perfect for all you coffee and crochet lovers! A great size square for a granny blanket OR use it as a potholder or trivet!

StarbucksSpring1

What you see pictured:
Starbucks® Black Iced Coffee: Medium roast and ready to drink from the bottle or pour over ice! Love that it comes sweetened and unsweetened versions. Perfect for busy moms on the go!
Starbucks® Pike Place Roast Coffee: The classic! I grew up in Seattle, WA and Pike Place Market is home of the original Starbucks store. Such a great place to visit if you ever get the chance. This roast is smooth and satisfying! I have the K-cups which make brewing a cup so convenient every morning.
TAZO® Chai Tea Filterbag Tea: A dark tea with sweet cinnamon and ginger added. A great beverage to add into the mix when you want something flavorful and different from your basic cup of coffee.
Starbucks® Etched Siren Mug: Beautiful white on white, clean and crisp engraved logo. I love bringing this one out for brunches and special spring occasions like Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

Now are you ready to get your hooks out and whip up this super cute coffee cup C2C granny square?!
I am providing the pixel graph below but if you need help figuring out how to crochet using the C2C (corner-to-corner) technique please refers to my Baby Sheep C2C post which has photo and video instruction.

Materials:
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Bernat Super Value Worsted Weight Yarn in Aqua, Taupe, and Mushroom. You can find all colors at Yarnspirations.com!
– Tapestry Needle

Finished Size: 9×9 although yours may be slighting smaller or bigger depending on your tension.

Crochet iPhone C2C Graphgan

April 12, 2016

IMG_8496

Friends, I have a real treat for you today! A very talented fellow crocheter named Stephanie Lewis has created an incredible C2C (corner-to-corner) iPhone Graphgan! And she is allowing me to share all of the pixel graphs she created right here on my blog! Inspired by my Emojis, Steph got the idea to make 20×20 square pixel graphs of iPhone Apps, just as the icons would appear on the home screen of your phone. Then she stitched them all together to make a fun and fabulous blanket that looks just like an iPhone! You can see the blanket in progress on her Instagram. Very trendy for todays tweens, teens, and those of us (like me) who love our Apple devices 😉

Thank you so much Steph for your generosity and for allowing me to share not only your graph patterns, but these adorable pictures of your children!!

Please take a moment to thank Steph personally on her Instgram page @steph.lewis or click HERE for the direct link.

PHP_7705

All of the pixel graphs are complied into a clear and organized PDF document that also includes notes about how to finish the blanket. If you need more direction about how to crochet using the C2C technique you can refer to my Sheep Graphgan post or my Christmas Character Blanket.

You can download the iPhone pixel graphs for free HERE

Are you or your kids Emoji-obssessed? It’s hard not to love those cute little faces and icons that give your texts and social media posts a little pizzazz! I created 9 Emoji Crochet C2C (corner-to-corner) squares and stitched them together to make a fun Emoji Graphgan! A fairly simple project that you can easily add to.  A great gift for your teen or tween! Don’t forget about the “Poop Pillow” to pair with your Emoji Face Blanket!

I stitched my squares together by simply SC the edges. First horizontally and then vertically. This is the same technique I used to put together my Daisy Afghan.

Yellow used in tutorial to show the stitches better. I ultimately decided on white for the seams.

I made a simple SC border around the entire edge. First using white, then yellow, brown, and white again. Be sure that you make a SC + Chain 2 + SC on each corner.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this Mini Crochet-along! So many possibilities for this blanket and many other squares could be added! I have included a blanket graph for you to sketch out your own emoji’s at the end of THIS POST.

Hope you’ve enjoyed the Emoji’s! Can’t wait to see your versions!

Crochet C2C Baby Blanket with Lion Brand Yarn

October 15, 2015

OwlC2C_halfway

I have some exciting news! I’ve collaborated with Lion Brand Yarn on a new C2C (corner-to-corner) crochet project: An owl baby blanket!! So cute, right?! You’ve seen me give a couple sneak peeks of this on Facebook and Instagram but now that I am about halfway through, I’m able to give you a better look at the design. I created the graph in Photoshop and am working hard on writing out very clear instructions. Even beginners will be able to make this blanket! The tutorial will include the printable owl graph, detailed photo tutorials, a written pattern for the color changes, AND a written pattern for the entire graph (I’ve never seen this done before but we are breaking the mold!). The final post and pattern will be available in early November on the Lion Brand Yarn Blog. I will be sure to let you know when it is finished and give you a link to the final post and pattern when it’s ready!

If you want to get prepared and purchase your yarn right now, I am using Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice Yarn in these colors: Aqua, Sapphire, Silver Blue, Linen, Terracotta, White, and Black. I won’t have final numbers on skeins until the end. But go ahead and stock up now! Great for a gender neutral baby gift or customize it for a boy or girl. The Vanna’s Choice Yarn line has so many wonderful color options!

If you haven’t tried pixel crochet, this is going to be a great project to start with. I’ve purposely created simple lines that work well with the corner-to-corner (C2C) technique. Tips like how to change colors and carry your yarn up without cutting ends will all be included in the tutorial. A big thank you to Lion Brand Yarn for commissioning this project and providing me the tools to work up this adorable little owl!

Crochet Corner to Corner (C2C) Baby Sheep Graphgan

July 31, 2015

I successfully finished my first Corner to Corner (C2C) Graphgan! The C2C works up much quicker than the pixel square blanket and the bobble stitch blanket so it’s a great option for those of you who want to give pixel crochet a try. In this post I am going to give you the basics about creating a C2C blanket. There is no specific pattern to follow, you create these afghans by following a pixel graph, working from the bottom right hand corner, row by row, until you get the top left hand corner!

What you need to re-create the Baby Sheep C2C Graphgan:
– Baby Sheep Graph. This graph will cost you $2.50. It is the most adorable cross stitch pattern by GreatHome and available for purchase HERE on Etsy. When I saw it on Pinterest, I knew I had to have it! The instant download file comes with the pixel graph you will need. Keep in mind that you do not need to purchase this pattern to create a C2C graphgan. You can use ANY pixel graph pattern and follow the instructions below.
Click Here to purchase the Baby Sheep Graph
– Size G Crochet Hook. Typically I would use size H but this graph was 73×79 squares and I new a smaller hook would keep it from becoming too big.
– Worsted weight yarn. I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in Beige, Silver Blue, White, Pink, and Antique Rose.
– Tapestry needle
– Pen to mark your squares as you go!
I took a lot of video throughout the creation of this project… but when I looked back on it, it seemed to be too confusing. I decided to show you how to make a C2C by crocheting a small graph. That way you can see how to start, make increases, create your “maintain” rows, and then how to do the decreases. You can apply the techniques in the video to a large more complex graphgan.

Here is a separate video on how to make color changes!

Remember to mark off each square as you go! Double check your work to make sure you haven’t missed a square. If one thing doesn’t line up, the whole design will be thrown off.
The entire C2C Graphgan took me a little over a week to complete. The finished size is approximately 58×64 inches and the graph was 73×70 squares. You can see my day to day progress in the pictures below!

Now lets talk about the border!
When you finish the C2C you will notice your edges will have a combination of a chain followed by 3 double crochets. To make a single crochet border, you want to make 2 SC in the chain parts and one SC over each double crochet part. This will create a nice even edge.
I made a simple border using 4 rows of single crochets (first beige, then antique rose, then pink, then blue) finishing with a picot edging in white. Each corner needs to have a SC + 2 chains + SC.  The picot edging is 3 SC, *chain 3, slip stitch to first chain, SC in next 3 stitches, repeating from *. Try your best to land on a picot in each corner. If you need to add in an extra SC or skip a stitch, it really won’t be that noticeable. Getting a clean corner is more important!

The back is just as beautiful as the front (as pictured below)! The image is just reversed.

I didn’t plan this out but I love a happy accident! This C2C graphgan fits perfectly on a twin size bed!

I hope you like my baby sheep C2C! Looking forward to seeing what you create as well!

Think of all the ways you could adjust this simple and versatile project!

Easy Crochet Bunny
Are you ready for some easy amigurumi?! This Crochet Bunny has very little sewing involved because the only pieces that need to be attached are the arms and feet (and those are optional!) The entire body and head and the two floppy ears are crocheted in one piece giving you less parts to sew together and ends to weave in. Just start from the bottom up!

Easy Corner-to-Corner Crochet Joining Technique

December 2, 2022

It’s time to join our crochet gnomes! This tutorial will work with any corner-to-corner crochet project and the best part is that you DON’T need a border on each of your individual C2C pieces! This is a very simple and effective technique. If you have already made individual borders along each of your gnome panels, don’t worry, you have lots of joining options that I will list out at the bottom of this post.

The first thing I would do is lay out all of your gnome panels in the correct order and position you want them. Choose a yarn color that you want to join your C2C panels with. I am choosing white – simple and clean! You are going to want to join all the seams, first going vertically, then going horizontally down the line. I try to explain this better in my video below:

Holding two of the panels together, you will be making a Single Crochet stitch between the pixel blocks, then make a chain 2 and reach your hook over to the next space between pixel blocks and make another SC. Continue until you have joined all the C2C panels.

The backside has a cool stitched look to it as well!

Alternate joining methods if your C2C panel has a border on it:
Join using the Braided Join Single Crochet as seen in my Corner-to-Corner Celebration Blanket.

Slip Stitch the front loops together as seen in my C2C Bird Blanket

Basic Single Crochet Join as seen in my Emoji Blanket:

And last but not least, one of my absolute favorite blankets and join techniques (but also the most time consuming) is the Tapestry Needle Lace Join (similar to a mattress stitch) that I used on my Christmas Character C2C Blanket.

Get all the details on the 2022 Gnome Project RIGHT HERE!
It’s never too late to start this blanket.

Up next will be a tutorial on how to crochet a border for you gnome blanket!

Corner-to-Corner Crochet Tulip

May 6, 2022

Are you new the concept of Corner-to-Corner Crochet (aka C2C)? Or need some help with the logistics of how to change colors and increase/decrease? Let me help you! I have filmed a long video tutorial because I am walking you through this Tulip C2C block from start to finish! I am using the Half Double Crochet stitch and Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in these beautiful bright Spring colors!
Grab the Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver in Lemon, Spring Green, Grenadine, Medium Purple, Turqua, and Pumpkin. Thank you to Red Heart Yarns for sending me these lovely shades of yarn to work with!

Make a whole bunch of these blocks and stitch them together for a blanket. Or maybe just crochet a couple and create a pouch or small tote bag. How about a table runner? So many ways to use these tiny tulips! I will be sure to have a follow-up post with directions on how to make a border and attach the blocks.

Corner-to-Corner Crochet lets you create a variety of images and pictures and designs using a pixel graph. These graphs are made up of squares. Each square is equal to a Chain 2 + 3 HDC stitches. You will start in the corner (I prefer the lower right hand corner) and you will work diagonally in rows until you get the upper left hand corner.

I will show you how to carry your yarn and increase/decrease on the edges. Increases start with a chain 5, when it’s time to decrease you will slip stitch along the edge to start your next square.

To prepare, I suggest creating 2-3 balls of the background color (Lemon Yellow) because you will need to have several strands attached at one time. With the other colors, you can pull for the center of the skien. It doesn’t use much yarn!

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Lemon, Spring Green, Grenadine, Medium Purple, Turqua, and Pumpkin
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tulip Pixel Graph GET IT HERE
– Tapestry Needle

Finished Size: Approximately 6 x 7.5 inches

I hope you find this video helpful! There are many C2C Crochet Tutorials out there but sometimes it’s beneficial to watch a few different ones for new perspectives.

Thanks to my friend Jennifer Freeman from My Beautiful Disasters for providing the Tulip C2C written pattern!
Sometimes it’s easier to see the color changes written out on paper rather than look at the picture graph.

Crochet Cow Lovey Blanket

March 29, 2022

I couldn’t fight the latest crochet trend! It’s all about cows right now and super cute crochet farm animals! So when I spotted a sweet little cow dishcloth pattern over at Yarnspirations.com, it inspired me to transform it into a sweet little lovey blanket. The cow print pattern comes with a pixel graph and when you download the PDF pattern, the directions will show you how to make this project in single crochet stitches. I decided to use the corner-to-corner technique! And if you’ve been following along with the #2022gnomeproject, I am sure you are now familiar with C2C crochet. Regardless, you can crochet the cow print in a variety of stitches so chose whichever one suits you!

Get the FREE Cow Print Dishcloth Pattern HERE
(this is what I used for the main blanket portion of this project)

Here is a short video the corner-to-corner crochet technique I’m using. I decided to use a mini C2C stitch which is a Chain 2 + 2 HDCs for each block.
Let me walk you through it:

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in White, Black, and Buff Beige
– Size F Crochet Hook
– 20mm black safety eyes (optional)
– Polyfil Fiber Stuffing
– Tapestry Needle

After you have complete the small blanket portion above, add on a cute cow head and arms by following the pattern below!

Cow Head:
Starting with beige yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 3: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 4: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 5: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
Round 6: 2 SC in first, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 7: 2 SC in first, SC in next 3, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 8-10: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
join white yarn, fasten off beige
Round 11: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 12: SC Decrease, SC in next 3, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 13-15: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 16: SC Decrease, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 17-22: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1

Now is a good time to add safety eyes between rounds 13 and 14. Space them 10 stitches apart from each other.
You can also stitch on two little nostrils to the front of the nose with a strand of black yarn and your tapestry needle.
Start stuffing with poly-fil fiber stuffing

Round 23: SC Decrease, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 24: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 25: SC Decrease in each stitch around, join, chain 1
finish stuffing
Round 26: SC Decrease until closed

Cow Arms (make 2):
starting with beige yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 12 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 3-6: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (18 SC)
Round 7: SC Decrease, SC in next 4, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 8: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (15 SC)
Round. 9: SC Decrease, SC in next 3, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 10-20: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (12 SC)

Horns (Make 2):
with beige yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 6 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 3-5: SC in each stitch around, join
fasten off and stitch each how to the top of the cow head

Cow Outer Ears:
Make one ear in black and the other in white
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 3: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 4: SC in each stitch around, fasten off.

Cow Inner Ear:
Make 2 in beige
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 3: SC in each stitch around, join, fasten off leaving long tail.

Stitch inner ear to outer ear. Do not center it. Have the inner ear off to one edge of the outer ear.
Then you can pinch the other side closed and stitch on to either side of the cow head.

There are many spots where you can attach the head and arms to the blanket. I chose directly in the middle but it would look cute if you attached it to the top or corner of the blanket. You could even make 4 arms and attach each one to the 4 corners. Up to you!

I hope you utterly adore this project as much as I do!

All About the Crochet Hooks I Use!

January 28, 2022

I’ve had a ton of questions lately about where I get my crochet hooks that are seen in my photo and video tutorials. Thank you for asking! I decided that this warranted a whole blog post 🙂 There are many different options when it comes to crochet hooks and basically it comes down to what is most comfortable for you and what always you to create smooth and easy stitches. There is no right or wrong answer. It is 100% a personal preference. I am going to walk you through a few common options and then highlight what I personally prefer.

Let’s start with the basics. There are two types of standard hooks: a tapered hook (Boye brand) and an inline hook (Susan Bates brand). I am mentioning and comparing the Bates and Boye brands because these are the ones that are easily available in craft stores and online. Take a look at the throat of these crochet hooks and you will see a difference. The inline hooks have a head that is in-line with the handle of the hook. It also has a more or a point and the mouth notch is bit deeper. This is helpful for beginners as it grabs the yarn a little easier. The tapered hooks are have a head that extends past the handle of the hook and it’s typically a bit rounder and the notch at the mouth is also not as deep and smoother.

I prefer the Bates (inline) hooks because (for me personally) I am able to catch the yarn easier when I am making my stitches BUT I know PLENTY of crocheters hands down prefer the tapered hook. Try both and see what is right for you!

And no need to limit yourself to aluminum hooks. Crochet hooks also come in plastic, wood, resin, and bamboo. Lots of options!

Keep in mind that these hooks come in different sizes that coordinate with the weight of yarn you are working with. I almost always use a size H hook because I mostly work with worsted weight yarn.

Now let me get to the fun part!

POLYMER CLAY HOOKS

Many years ago, I began purchasing hooks with polymer clay handles. These are aluminum hooks (typically either Bates or Boye) that have polymer clay designs baked onto the handle. Why? Because not only are the designs fun, festive, and cute, but they create an ergonomic handle which is designed to ease pain and tension caused by the motions of crochet.

I have a hard time crocheting without a polymer clay handle. I use the pencil hold (meaning I hold my crochet hook like you would a pencil) and it feels very comfortable with a slightly thicker handle. The weight distribution of the hook in my hand is perfect and helps with the rocking motion when I’m stitching.

All of the polymer clay hooks you see in these photos were handmade by very talented designers. They spend a long time making the clay canes and reducing them. Here are some photos of the process by Jennifer of Day by Day Clay and Crochet

After creating cute character polymer clay canes and reducing and cutting them, they are rolled onto a clay handle and sanded, baked, and glazed. Each one is handmade! I haven’t ever made one myself so I hope I am doing her justice with my explanation! You can see Jennifer’s incredible work and process in her group Day by Day Clay and Crochet. And currently Jennifer and I have a fun gnome-themed collaboration going on! Ever month in 2022 she is creating a gnome crochet hook based on the season/holiday and I am creating a matching corner-to-corner crochet piece. You can purchase her hook each month in her Facebook group and you can find the crochet pattern right here on Repeat Crafter Me! Come see the January Gnome HERE.

So where can you buy these polymer clay hooks?

Many of these hooks I purchase are from Jennifer at Day by Day Clay and Crochet. This includes the gnome, penguin, and my favorite rainbow flower hooks pictured above, among many more. She has a private Facebook group where she lists hooks for sale as she finishes large batches. You can join her group and get all the details HERE.

Some of the hooks in the picture (like the panda that I use in my Ollie the O’Go Owl tutorial, gingerbread house, snow globe, etc) are from The Clay Bean Co. She also sells her hooks on her Facebook page as she creates small batches of finished designs. Find her HERE.

Another favorite designer of mine is The Polymer Clay Shed. She created the owl, cactus, gingerbread man, (among others) and she sells her hooks RIGHT HERE on Etsy.

This is not a sponsored post. I happily and eagerly love to support my fellow makers! I adore polymer clay crochet hooks and there are many more crochet hook designers that you can find just by googling, searching social media, and looking on Pinterest and Etsy.

I hope this helps you decide which hook is best for you!

Crochet Gingerbread Santa Style Hat

December 6, 2021

A fun new twist on the basic Santa hat… A Gingerbread version! I love everything gingerbread themed for the holidays so I needed a hat to really get festive and complete my holiday attire. The hat works up very quickly using double crochet stitches. Bernat Super Value yarn in color Topaz is there absolute perfect gingerbread color so you are definitely going to want to stock up on this yarn. I will post some of my other gingerbread crochet designs using this specific yarn at the bottom of this post.

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value in Topaz, Berry Red, and White. Shop these colors HERE on Yarnspirations.com
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Two 1 inch black buttons (or smaller)
– Tapestry Needle
– Large Pom-Pom Maker (optional)
– Fabric or Hot Glue (optional)

NOTE: ALL HAT SIZES START THE SAME WAY. You will begin with the long hat tail. IF you want the tail shorter/longer you can decrease/increase the amount of continuous rows.

NOTE: I’ve found that the “child/teen” size (the one with the 60 stitch count) fits the majority of people! I can wear it. All of my kids can wear it (ages 8, 10, and 12), and I’ve gifted it two adults (male and female) and it fit them perfectly as well!

Crochet Block Stitch Using HDC

September 21, 2021

I’ve been getting so much great feedback about the border I’ve been crocheting onto my Puppy C2C Blanket that I thought I would make a separate post to walk you through it. I am using a modified version of the Block Stitch with HDC stitches. It works great as a border on C2C blankets but as I show you in this tutorial you can also use it as a Granny Square or continue rounds to make it into a large blanket!

I hope you love these Fall yarn colors as much as I do! I am using Bernat Super Value in Oatmeal, Forest Green, Aqua, Pumpkin, Gold, and Topaz. You can find the colors HERE on Yarnspiraitons.com

Grab your size H Crochet hook and lets get started!

HDC Block Stitch Granny Square

With Color 1
Round 1: Magic ring, chain 2 + 2 HDC in ring, chain 2, make 2 more HDC in ring, chain 2, make 2 more HDC in ring, chain 2, 2 HDC, chain 2 and join to first HDC, fasten off color 1
join in cream color yarn to any corner and chain 1
Round 2: SC + chain 2 + SC in corner, chain 2, SC + Chain 2 + SC in next corner, chain 2, repeat around and join to first SC, do not fasten off
Join in Color 2 and chain 2
Round 3: 2 HDC in all the chain 2 spaces, 2 HDC + chain 2 + 2 HDC in each of the corners, join
Round 4: Pull up cream color yarn and repeat Round 2 making a SC in between each of the 2 HDC’s and 2 SC + chain 2 + 2 SC in each of the corners.
Round 5: Join in Color 3 and repeat Round 3
Continue repeating rounds until the square is as big or small as you’d like.

Crochet School Bus Granny Square

August 10, 2021

Here’s another fun Back to School pattern! This School Bus Granny Square can be made into blanket or used as the center embellishment for a tote bag or even made into a cute little pocket pouch! My kids are taking the bus for the first time ever this year (we never had bus service near our house until now) and we are so excited to make a sweet little gift out of this granny square for our bus driver!

Make this piece with Red Heart Super Yarn or any other similar worsted weight yarn in bright bus colors!

Materials:
– Red Heart Yarn in colors: Gold, Black, White, and Turqua.
Shop all colors HERE on Yarnspirations.com

– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle
– Optional: small red buttons, 1 inch yellow buttons, and any other things you’d like to jazz up your bus!

Finished Size: Approximately 6×6 inches

Starting with black yarn…
Chain 16, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain,
Join in yellow yarn and chain 1, turn
Row 2-9: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn
Row 10-14: SC in first 2 stitches, join in white yarn, SC in next 11 stitches, SC in last two stitches, chain 1, turn (It helps to carry the yarn as you crochet to avoid weaving in a bunch of ends)
Row 15-17: SC in each stitch across (just yellow yarn), chain 1, turn
Do not fasten off
Now let’s work on the border…
Border Row 1: SC around each side of square. You will need to switch to black yarn along the bottom and then back to yellow for the other side of the square. On the rough edges of the square you will make 12 SC in yellow and and 2 SC in black. Make a SC + Chain 2 + SC in each corner.
Join in blue yarn…
Border row 2-4: SC in each stitch around and SC + Chain 2 + SC in each corner. If you want to add the wheels then you will switch to black yarn for 3 stitches on either side of the bus for rows 2 & 3. You can also add wheels on afterward by adding black buttons or crocheting circles (or half circles: magic ring, chain 1 and make 6 HDC in ring, do not join, pull tight).

Embellish!
Add on buttons for the lights (or crochet circles)
Add on a little license plate with felt or foam!
Lots of ways to customize this cute little bus!

And here are two more versions I made (and shared with you guys on my Repeat Crafter Me Facebook page). I’ve been playing around with different ways to embelish and design this granny square. As you can see, you can create your own unique version!

Birdhouse C2C Square

April 29, 2021

I’m adding a cute little Birdhouse Corner-to-Corner Crochet Square to the Sparrow C2C Blanket! My plan is for this to be the center square so I do need to crochet a few more birds before I can start joining it all together. The birdhouse is completely customizable! I chose to add a heart on one side of the square and a circle on the either. You can’t go wrong either way! I am also including a graph (below) if you want to crochet a heart right into the C2C design.

You can find the Sparrow C2C Squares HERE.

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Aqua (Turqua), Taupe, and Saffron.
Shop all colors HERE on Yarnspirations.com
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle
– Bird House Pixel Graph

I used the C2C (corner-to-corner) technique to crochet each square.  Follow THIS VIDEO DEMONSTRATION by The Crochet Crowd for more explanation on how to crochet C2C afghans.  I used a size H crochet hook and worsted weight yarn . Specifically Red Heart Super Saver. Each square takes less than a skein. I was able to make 4 squares with one skein of aqua!

VERY IMPORTANT: Instead of the traditional C2C method of using DC’s and chain 3’s to make each pixel, I used HDC’s and only chained 2 (and chained 5 instead 6 on the increase stitches). I like the way the overall stitches look tighter and neater. You can absolutely use the traditional method! Keep in mind that it will take a little bit more yarn and your overall project will be larger (which isn’t a bad thing!)

Find the Heart Pattern HERE

Circle Pattern:
Magic Ring, chain 2 and make 12 DC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, fasten off leaving long tail.

Heart on one side!

Circle on the other!

As I’ve been crocheting this sweet bird blanket, my husband and I noticed a few sparrows hanging around the side of our house. We installed an outdoor TV along the wall of our house during Covid stay-at-home orders and just noticed that the cute little sparrows were building a nest in the back of it! We haven’t moved the TV or turned it on in awhile (and don’t plan to!) We can’t wait to see these 3 little birds hatch! We are going to name them Stitch, Stash, and Skein 🙂

Stay tuned for more updates! (on the blanket and the birdies)

We got him a cute little bunny onesie and I crocheted a little carrot to complete the Easter Day photoshoot 🙂 Of course this little carrot is a fun little crochet food pattern for any time of the year!

– Green worsted weight yarn. Red Heart Super Saver in Spring Green is perfect for this project.

– Size H Crochet Hook
– Polyfil Fiber Stuffing
– Tapestry needle

Carrot Pattern:
with orange yarn
Magic ring, chain 1 and make 4 SC in ring, join to first SC, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 3: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 4: 2 SC in first, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1

Crochet Cozy Winter Cabin Blanket

December 17, 2020

Home for the Holidays! We sure have been spending a lot of time at home these days. Especially with all the stay-at-home orders. I decided to embrace this 2020 theme of “home” and work up a cozy winter blanket that is perfect the season!

It started with a Corner-to-Corner Crochet square of sweet little house/cabin in beautiful winter blue colors from the Red Heart Super Saver yarn line. I then used simple stitches to crochet a big border. You could make this blanket as large as you’d like by continueing the border pattern. Very simple! My blanket is about 40 by 40 inches.

Materials
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in colors Blue, Light Periwinkle, Light Blue, Cafe Latte, and White.

If you are making the blanket exactly as I did, you will only need one skein of each except the light blue (you will need 2 of that color). If you plan on making the blanket bigger I suggest buying at least 2 skeins of each color. Shop the yarn HERE on Yarnspirations.com

– Size H Crochet Hook
– House Pixel Graph. Download HERE
– Tapestry Needle

I used the C2C (corner-to-corner) technique to crochet the house square.  Follow THIS VIDEO DEMONSTRATION by The Crochet Crowd for more explanation on how to crochet C2C afghans. My square is about 17 x 17 inches when finished

You could also use SC or DC stitches to crochet this as a graphgan!

After you have finished the Corner-to-Corner House, you will then start crocheting in rounds around the square. Below is a step-by-step tutorial of each row.

NOTE: I did join and chain 1 (or 2 if it’s a DC stitch) at the end of each round. I found that it helps to make extra corner stitches on your DC rounds. So for instance if you are using the DC then your corners will be 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC and if you are using SC for a particular round then it will be SC + chain 2 + SC in the corners.

Border Round 1:
SC in the spaces between each “pixel square”, chain 2 in between each SC. When you get to the corners make a SC + chain 2 + SC in each.

Border Round 2:
Make 2 SC in each chain 2 space all the way around. Make a SC + chain 2 + SC in each corner.

Border Round 3:
Change to brown yarn.
SC in each stitch around. Make a SC + chain 2 + SC in each corner.

Border Round 4:
Switch to dark blue yarn
DC in each stitch around. Make 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in each corner.

Border Round 5:
Switch to Periwinkle color yarn
HDC in each stitch around. Make a HDC + chain 2 + HDC in each corner

Border Round 6:
Switch to white yarn
SC in each stitch around. Make a SC + chain 2 + SC in each corner.

Border Round 7:
Make bobble stitches every 10 stitches. So you will start by making a bobble (see video on how to do this) and then SC in the next 9 stitches, make a bobble in next, and repeat. Do not make bobbles in the corners. Make a SC + chain 2 + SC in each of the corner stitches. It’s ok if the bobbles aren’t exactly 9 stitches apart.

Border Round 8:
SC in each stitch around. Make a SC + chain 2 + SC in each corner.

Border Round 9:
Switch to Periwinkle color yarn
HDC in each stitch around. Make a HDC + chain 2 + HDC in each corner

Border Round 10:
Switch to dark blue yarn
DC in each stitch around. Make 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in each corner.

Border Round 11:
Change to brown yarn.
SC in each stitch around. Make a SC + chain 2 + SC in each corner.

Border Round 12-16:
Switch to light blue yarn
DC in each stitch around. Make 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in each corner.

After Round 16, repeat Round 3-11.
Make one last round of DC in the light blue and then add a bobble edge! I used the same technique as the bobbles in the blanket except to make them stand along along the edge you will make a SC then chain 4, Bobble in the 3rd chain from hook and slip stitch in the last chain, SC in next 9 stitches and repeat.

Not ready to make a final edge? Feel free to continue with the entire sequence for as big as you’d like to make your blanket!

Home Sweet Home!

Dragonfly Crochet Blanket

September 28, 2020

Beautiful Fall colors and a beautiful story to go along with this blanket. About a year and a half ago I made a customized C2C blanket for my sons wonderful teacher and her husband. Her name is Valerie (Val) and his name is Edward (Ed) and when you put the letter “u” in the middle, it spells “VALuED” !! Isn’t that the most adorable thing you’ve ever heard?!

Unfortunately a few months after I made the custom C2C blanket, Ed was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and he fought so incredibly hard. Ed passed away about a month ago and our school community is just devastated. Special teachers and souls come into your life and Mrs Meyers and her husband are truly special, caring, and all around good people. She helped my middle son when he was struggling in school and we are very grateful.

I wanted to do something for her but wasn’t sure what…

Then she posted on social media that many of her friends and family members had been visited by dragonflies shortly after Ed’s passing. She even said that there was a cluster of drangonflies in her yard. They were “dragonflyED!” I knew at that moment what I wanted to do. Make her a dragonfly crochet blanket! I used a soothing Fall color palette to bring her warmth and comfort.

I used this pixel graph to first create the dragonfly square in the middle. I crochet rows of single crochet stitches (one single crochet = one square in the pixel graph) and carried the purple yarn when I got to the dragonfly image.

Materials:
Bernat Super Value – Mulberry (3 skeins)
Bernat Super Value – Steel Blue Heather (2 skiens)
Red Heart Super Saver – Country Blue (one skein)
Read Heart Super Saver – Gold (one skein)
Read Heart Super Saver – Cornmeal (one skein)
Bernat Super Value – Natural (one skein)

Size H Crochet Hook
Dragonfly Pixel Graph
Tapestry Needle

Finished Size = approximately 55 x 55 inches

The pattern is simple.
Once you crochet your single crochet square (it doesn’t have to be a perfect square) from your pixel graph, you will now work in rounds.
with neutral
DC in each stitch around make 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in each the corners, join, chain 2
Continue this pattern of making double crochet stitches in each stitch around and a 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in each of the corners. Feel free to change colors like I did:
1 round of Neutral
3 rounds of Cornmeal
5 rounds of Gold
7 rounds of Country Blue
9 rounds of Steal Blue Heather
11 rounds of Mulberry

So simple! And you could even make this blanket with any sort of design in the center.

Happy Fall! Sending warmth and comfort to all of you. Hug your loved ones tight and I’m sending lots of love and prayers to the Meyers family.

Celebrate and Happy Birthday Crochet Banner

April 25, 2020

Here is the last piece of the Celebration C2C Blanket before I join all the squares! I was originally going to make a Happy Birthday Banner but decided on “Celebrate” so we could use this blanket for multiple occasions! For instance, my husband and I just celebrated our Anniversary and this would have been the perfect piece to have out during our special day!

But I am providing you with a few different graphs. You can make a “Happy” banner for the top and a “Birthday” banner for the bottom OR “Happy Birthday” in one banner across the top OR “Celebrate” as I did!

I also decided to surface slip stitch with the brown yarn around each letter of CELEBRATE so that it would really pop!

Some of you may have see my social media posts yesterday. I lost at yarn chicken and ran out of the off white (natural) color I was using for the background of my project. And I only had a tiny little corner to go! So after thinking about it, I started rummaging through my finished projects and realized that I used the same yarn color on my Bunny Blanket! I took out part of the border and used the yarn to finish the banner. It will be easy to re-crochet the border of the bunny blanket when I get a new skein of Bernat Super Value yarn in color natural.

Download the Celebrate Graph HERE
Download the Happy Graph HERE
Download the Birthday Graph HERE

Here are the 9 squares and all the details about the project. I will be posting the finished blanket and the joining technique soon!
